Respiratory Benefits
Clove bud essential oil is effective as a decongestant when used in a vaporiser. Inhaling steam tinged with a few drops of clove oil can relieve symptoms of coughs and colds. A few drops of essential clove oil on a piece of cloth placed in your closet will freshen the air. Clove buds in potpourri give it a spicier, longer lasting scent.
 
Stress-relieving Benefits
Clove oil is aphrodisiac in nature and hence serves as an excellent stress reliever. It has a stimulating effect on the mind and removes mental exhaustion and fatigue. Clove oil also induces sleep and is helpful to insomnia patients.
 
Topical Benefits
Clove oil contains salicylic acid, a common treatment for acne which helps to prevent eruptions and clear existing blemishes by unplugging pores and reducing swelling. Salicylic acid also benefits psoriasis (scaly skin disease), dandruff, warts, and calluses.
 
Pest Control Benefits
Clove oil is often the active ingredient in natural herbicides and effectively kills many undesirable plants. It is a proven mosquito repellent. You can also use clove oil to kill bedbugs and mites. To use in a spray bottle, mix 1 part clove oil to 10 parts water.

 
Applications: Aromatherapy, massage, soaps, cosmetics and other natural products.

Blends well with: basil, rosemary, rose, cinnamon, grapefruit, lemon, nutmeg, peppermint, orange, lavender, and geranium.

Cautions: All clove oil can cause skin and mucous membrane irritation. Use in moderation only, in low dilution (less then 1 percent). Not to be taken internally.

GENERAL USES OF PURE ESSENTIAL OILS:

  • Room freshener: Using a vapouriser, add 10-15 drops to warm water - replenish the Essential Oil after approx. 3 hours
  • Skin care: Add 1-2 % to creams, lotions, vegetable oils or body butter for face & body application
  • Massage: Mix 5-6 drops to 10ml of a carrier oil for general body massage
  • Bath : Add 5-7 drops to 30ml of a carrier oil. Add this blend to running bath water and mix well before getting into the tub.
  • Steam inhalation: Add 5-10 drops to a bowl of hot water, cover your head with a towel and inhale the vapour
  • Tissue/aroma pillow: Add 3-6 drops to use on pillow or tissue at night or carry around with you
  • General household freshening: Add a few drops of oil to your garbage bin, laundry wash, drain, vacuum bag filter, or on a tissue for placement in your drawers.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Essential oils are highly concentrated and need to be diluted for direct application to the skin by mixing them in base carrier oils. Carrier oils help essential oils penetrate the skin.
