The Snorer's Friend® can quickly and cheaply stop the snoring, so EVERYONE in the house can get a good night's sleep.
Who is the Snorer's Friend® suitable for?
This device is designed for healthy adults who wish to reduce the volume and frequency of their snoring.
Who should NOT use the Snorer's Friend® ?
This device is not suitable for
- children (under 18 years of age)
- people with some tooth or gum problems - if you do not have a full and healthy set of teeth, you may still be able to use the device but please let us know so we can give you some extra guidelines you should follow
- people with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (unless your doctor has told you to purchase one)
- people with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems, such as pain in the jaw joint when eating, or a "clicky" jaw
- people who may suffer an epileptic seizure while using the device
How do I use it?
The first step is to adjust the Snorer's Friend® so it fits your mouth and jaw perfectly. This is easily done by softening the Snorer's Friend® in hot water and then placing it in your mouth and moulding it to suit your teeth. After that, you put it in your mouth every night before you go to sleep, and take it out every morning. It will need occasional cleaning. We recommend using your normal toothbrush and toothpaste to keep it clean and fresh. Full instructions for fitting and use are included with every Snorer's Friend®.
How does it work?
In sleep, our muscles relax. This results in the base of the tongue getting closer to the soft palate and soft tissue at the back of the throat, narrowing the airway. In non-snorers, this causes no problems. In snorers, the airway becomes so restricted that breathing becomes noisy. The Snorer's Friend® fixes this problem by holding the snorer's jaw slightly forward. Because the tongue is attached to the lower jaw, this opens the airway and restores quiet breathing.
Will it work for me?
Probably, yes. The Snorer's Friend® won't work for everyone, but most medical studies conclude that this type of device is effective for about 80% of snorers. If it doesn't work for you, you can still try surgery or CPAP machines, but the Snorer's Friend® is a much cheaper alternative. We hope that you'll think it's worth trying the Snorer's Friend® before the more expensive options.
Please note that if this device does not work for you, we will refund your payment. There's no need to post anything back, just phone us on the national freecall helpline (1800 726 889) and explain what's going wrong. We'll ask a few questions first (sometimes it will be a problem we've seen and fixed before) but if we can't get it working for you we'll immediately refund your payment.
If you want to do your own research, you might like to know that the medical term for a device like the Snorer's Friend® is "mandibular advancement device" or "mandibular repositioning splint".
How long will it last?
This will depend mostly on how active your jaw is during the night.
With no grinding or chewing, each mouthpiece will last around 12 months. But most people grind or chew at least a little bit. Most of our repeat customers get about 6-10 months of service out of each mouthpiece.
If you grind your teeth ferociously while you sleep, the device will need frequent replacing and you may be better off with a hard (acrylic) mandibular advancement device, which will cost more but also last longer. Most dentists can fabricate this type of device.
If you wear the device out quickly and feel that you have not received good value for money please let us know, we'll either give you a full refund or send you some more mouthpieces for free, whichever you prefer.
Are there side effects?
Yes, some side effects may occur. Most common are jaw joint pain, sore teeth, and excessive salivation. These usually stop after the snorer has worn the device for a few nights. Some studies have also shown that long term use of mandibular advancement devices can cause gradual movement of the teeth in some individuals, but this is quite rare and, where it does occur, is almost always accompanied by significant pain. Nevertheless, we recommend mentioning to your dentist that you are using a Snorer's Friend® and asking them to monitor the positions of your teeth during your normal dental checkups.
If you decide to stop using the device because of any side effects, please let us know and we'll refund your money.
What about Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) ?
OSA is a serious condition that sometimes occurs along with snoring. It will have long term effects on your health unless treated properly. OSA can be life-threatening.
People who suffer from OSA frequently stop breathing for short periods (up to a minute) while they sleep, then wake up very briefly (sometimes with choking noises) and recommence breathing. OSA is graded on how often these episodes occur. Less than 5 per hour is considered normal, 5-15 is "mild OSA", 15-30 is "moderate OSA", above 30 is "severe OSA". Usually a person suffering from OSA will suffer daytime tiredness, even after a long sleep.
Under the supervision of a doctor, the Snorer's Friend® MAY be an effective treatment for SOME people suffering from mild to moderate OSA. There is not enough evidence to support the use of this kind of device for severe OSA. Please note that the Snorer's Friend® (or any similar device) is not always effective in treating OSA, so it is very important to involve your doctor if you suspect you may have this condition. Usually the doctor will arrange for you to have an overnight sleep study with the Snorer's Friend® in place, as that is the only way to determine whether mandibular advancement therapy is suitable for you.
Please DO NOT risk your health by using the Snorer's Friend® as a "do it yourself" treatment for OSA. Doing so is illegal and likely to harmful. Please speak to your doctor BEFORE purchasing if you know or suspect you suffer from OSA.
Is it registered?
The Snorer's Friend® is registered as a treatment for snoring with the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration under number ARTG#115164.
Why are we better than the other sellers of snoring mouthpieces on ebay?
Since we started manufacturing and selling this product in 2004 there have been some "copy cat" start ups. This is fine by us, anything that expands the market is helpful. A lot more people would be enjoying snore-free sleep (and we'd be making a lot more money!) if everyone was aware of this type of treatment.
So why are we still the best?
Better guarantee. Unfortunately, about 20% of the population will not be able to stop their snoring using a mandibular advancement device. Either the device will fall out of their mouths when they sleep, or there won't be enough flexibility in their jaw joints to get their jaws far enough forward without discomfort. So offering a money back guarantee is an essential part of selling this type of device - quite a few customers are going to need it. Now if you offer a money back guarantee which (1) is short duration (30 days) and (2) require customers to post the device back to you, then, hey presto! hardly any of them will bother. They will feel ripped off, but hey, you get to keep their money! That's what our competitors do, and as you can imagine it's quite destructive for the industry. We're different. You don't have to post anything back to get your refund. We trust you and believe what you tell us. Also, there's no time limit on our guarantee. Why would we put a time limit on it? If you're happy, you won't want your money back. If you're not happy, we WANT you to have your money back.
Speedy delivery. At about 4pm every day we take a pile of Snorer's Friend to the post office in express post bags. So if you order before about 4pm, you'll receive it tomorrow (unless you live somewhere a bit remote).
Free delivery. Check carefully... some others will add a freight charge to your order. This has never made sense to us. If you purchase something on ebay, obviously you want to receive it (you don't just want to keep it sitting in some warehouse somewhere!) so why on earth should a freight charge be tacked on the end? Surely that's part of what you are purchasing.
"Stuffup Guarantee". If anything goes wrong when you are fitting the device (eg phone rings when the mouthpiece is in the hot water, or you get confused and put the hot mouthpiece in your ear instead of your mouth) just let us know and we'll send out 2 more mouthpieces free of charge - even if the stuffup is completely your fault.
Experience. We've been manufacturing and selling these a lot longer than the copy cats. If you need troubleshooting help, we're more likely to be able to help you.
Better customer service. Pick up the phone and call our national freecall helpline (1800 726 889). Then try phoning our competitors.
