DETAILS

A scarce medical work, exploring the use of plants within medicine, from influential botanist and physician, Carl Linnaeus.

A very influential text.

Rarely seen at auction- twice over the last 40 years. Soulsby 442 and Wellcome  II p 526.

Featuring a folding engraved plate by G. Hallman, although missing the original frontispiece as is usual with this work.

Carl Linnaeus, was a Swedish botanist, physician, and zoologist, who laid the foundations for the modern scheme of binomial nomenclature. He is known as the father of modern taxonomy, and is also considered one of the fathers of modern ecology. Many of his writings were in Latin, and his other works include  Hortus Cliffortianus, Fundamenta Botanica and Bibliotheca Botanica, and Systema Naturae.

Bound by C. Cooper and Co, Ltd.

CONDITION

Rebound in cloth with gilt lettering to the spine, and Birmingham Medical Institute gilt stamp to the spine. Externally, sound with very light rubbing to the spine. Internally, firmly bound with some instances of spotting through the text as usual. Faded Birmingham Medical Institute ink stamp to the title page. Small copperplate ink annotated notes throughout.
