KENNER SSP RACER "ELIMINATOR", BLUE W/ T-RIPCORD AND HASBRO JUMP
SET OF THREE
listing for an SSP Racer without sharing a memory would have to be a fake
one. So here's my memory. Deuce and I were best friends back in the
1st and 2nd grades. If he got a
certain toy for Christmas, usually so did I.
Our parents didn't shower us with toys, the ones we got though were
usually the hottest and the latest, so that we could - you know - make the
playground rock! The SSP models we
owned were both dragster style. Really cool, long and low racing machiines
with chromed out motors, just like Big Daddy Don Garlits. Well, there was another friend of ours,
Bobby P. who had just gotten his first SSP and brought it to school to show
it off. Bobbly P. was the frailest,
wiriest, whispiest, kid in our class.
He was so fragile. He never won a foot race, never won a bicycle race,
he could kick a kickball pretty good, but would always be the last one chosen
for a pick up game of football.
Anyway, when he showed Deuce and me which SSP he had just got, he was
sort of embarassed, because it wasn't a sleek chromed out dragster like ours
- it was just an El Camino…. Bobby's
entire life soon changed. The three of
us lined up our SSP's, and they took off towards the chainlink fence finish
line. The three SSPs rocketed down the paved play area, Deuce's and my
dragsters wobbled just enough to run into the side of Bobby P.'s El Camino.
Like an iron horse his El Camino never waivered and sent our dragsters to
hell in wild spins, while his screamed on towards victory! Bobby ran down and picked up his El Camino,
half hugging the darned thing, and turned around to Deuce and me and laid
down a new law. "Heh-Heh-Hehhh, you'll never beat me. If you run into me
I'll flatten ya!"
for bid is my still working, still rockin SSP Racer. And Bobby P…….you rule
man, you just Rule!
