Hi, thanks for checking out my listing.
I'm auctioning my 1970 17' - 10" long Super Sanger flatbottom v-drive. It has been a great boat for me, and I have had many great times with this boat. I originally put it together as a test-bed for an engine combination I was building for a land speed record, but the boat took on a life of it's own. Named "Shiver Shot" for a scene in the movie "The Cowboy Way" starring Keifer Sutherland and Woody Harrilson, if you see the movie, you'll understand why it's such a fun boat. I first put the boat together with an Enderle hat injected small block Chevy, then made my own fuel injection and built it with twin turbos. That engine set up had many bugs, and I re-engineered many things and added two more turbochargers. The engine lasted a while and had a few good outings. I then built a new engine, adding a 6-71 blower, making it a quadruple turbocharged, 6-71 supercharged, mechanically injected small block Chevy.
I have been running the quad turbo/blown set up for several years, accomplishing my goal of getting it to run reliably without breaking, and am now putting the engine in a car. I never drag raced the boat, and unlike other claims made on Ebay about horsepower, MPH, ET, I do not make any claims about how fast the boat is . . . I never ran it that hard or raced it and made some 80 - 90+mph solo passes in it, and that was good enough for me. Mission accomplished, my goal for the boat was to prove the engine / boost combination worked, not be "King of the Lake" or king of whatever.
1970 Super Sanger flatbottom (has a slight "V" in the hull, so not a true flat)
Carbon Fiber over the original fiberglass inside the boat. Stringers are in great condition. There is one bubble in the carbon fiber on the floor, small but worth mentioning. I was going to drill a small hole and glue it, but it really isn't hurting anything or getting bigger.
Aluminum stringer rails are included, I added lightened aluminum stringer rail doubler plates on the other side of the stringers instead of using washers (see pictures). All stainless steel hardware w/ Nylock nuts used.
Front and rear motor mounts are included. The only thing missing is the front motor plate. Set up for small block Chevy. The boat had a blown big block Chevy in it before I got it. The rear motor plate is a Glenwood and fits BBC or SBC. I polished and clear coated the mounts a couple years back, and the clear is checking a bit, that is the reason it looks scratched up in the pictures.
The chrome and aluminum two-piece driveline cover is included.
The two piece driveline and driveline to crankshaft adapter with bolts are included.
The v-drive is included. I rebuilt the Casale 62500-2 v-drive a couple years back. I replaced the original v-drive plate and all the mounts with a custom strut braced v-drive with an integral handle for the passenger to hold on to. There is also another black billet aluminum passenger grab handle in the boat. I also added a JJ Beaverfab prop-release mechanism that allows the propeller to free-wheel in case the engine locks up at speed. I also added a locking in and out handle. The gears are 15's. It also has a tach drive, and has a 0-10,000 RPM Accutronic tachometer.
6 bolt heavy duty chrome plated steel coupling and locking collar are included.
Prop shaft is included, I recommend replacing the strut bushings and eventually the prop shaft as there was some wear the last time I had it apart.
The propeller is a Stelling 11 1/2" x 15 pitch.
Glenwood Shaft log with rotary lip seal and silicone layered hose.
I added a doubler / mount where the skag bolts to the boat, I used this for my parachute and fuel controls, which are not included. The mount is.
There are side storage compartments with beverage holders. Great for storing a paddle, rope, fishing pole, etc.
I ran a parachute on the boat, and so I added struts that tie the chute anchor to the stringer rails. While you might not run a parachute, it would be a great ski rope mount. The parachute is not included.
TMC 500 Bilge pump and water witch are included (both need wiring). The water witch automatically turns on the bilge pump when the water gets too high. I never had any leaks in the boat, any water I got in the boat was from running it.
Two mounted, polished aluminum 10 gallon fuel tanks are included.
Battery tray and mount are included.
Lake water in / out steel braided hoses are included.
Aluminum exhaust header heat protection plates are included.
All working cavitation plate controls are included (locking shifter handle, linkage, seal)
Wing mounts and wing are included. The wing is a fully adjustable three row, 9 element, made of aluminum with 304 stainless steel side plates. It also can be easily lowered to clear garage openings, or set to neutral for highways.
I replaced the original Sanger cavitation plate hardware with Hallcraft hexagon shaft driven hardware, included.
Fiberglass seats are in nice shape, painted black. The seat covers are also in nice shape, and are black, grey and white.
The windshield I built as a tribute to my Dad, who worked for Lockheed Missles and Space back in the 60's. Under the aluminum and lexan windshield is the 10,000RPM Accutronic tachometer. There are holes drilled on either side of the tach, where I had mounted a air speed indicator and an accelerometer mounted in the same gauge pods as the tach, both not included with this auction. The C-130 Hercules air speed pitot tube mounted on the bow is included. All that is needed to measure air speed is another air speed indicator.
Also at the tip of the bow I added a fuel cell cap to have access to the air speed pitot tube as well as the bow eye.
The paint is black with red, yellow and orange flames around the engine compartment, pinstriped in light blue. The lettering is gold leaf, pinstriped in light blue. It could use a good buff and wax as there are swirls from dust and dirt that others tried to wipe off while at the lake.
Shiver Shot was in the very first issue of Performance Boats Magazine.
Registered until 2015, and it even has the ugly mussel sticker.
All this boat needs is an engine, fuel system, wiring and plumbing to get it running. I removed the gauges and wiring and switches because none of it would work for a carburated set up with standard ignition, and I had a lot of sensor wiring I needed to keep with the engine.
Tandem axle, manufacturer unknown. Painted black with black fenders. It has polished aluminum diamond plate on the tongue, steps, and top of fenders. I also added Teflon strips to the tops of fenders so the boat could not contact the diamond plate.
Foldable tongue dolly.
15" steel wheels with Marshal 791 Touring A/S P215 / 70 R15 tires in good shape, I just put them on but they are not balanced.
Each wheel hub has a Bearing Buddy for greasing the bearings without dis-assembly.
To be clear, not included in this auction is the engine, wiring, switches, and most plumbing. Any pictures showing the engine are to show how the boat looks with an engine and / or in the water and are for reference only.
$500 deposit due within 48 hours of the end of the auction. Please do not bid unless you are serious, please be fair to other bidders.
Boat and trailer are sold in as is condition. Local pickup only.
Thanks for looking and good luck!
