For auction today a quite rare beast:  mid-70 De Rosa road bike.  Very few of these were imported to North America.  Only after De Rosa started using cast lugs, and distribution channels improved, did De Rosas start to show up in any quantity in America.  These earlier frames, with their careful hand-filing and nicely thinned and shaped lugs, were seldom seen over here.

This was sold to the UK originally.  I acquired it a few years ago.  It's 55cm center-to-top seat tube; 54cm c-c top-tube.

This is a slight variation on the De Rosa Elaborata, with custom-fluted and enameled shorty Campagnolo seat-post.  All the usual milled parts of the Elaborata are shown in the photos.

The Campagnolo Record group augmented by a Regina 6-speed freewheel and Oro Extra perforated chain.  Also included as shown are some really beautiful wheels, stainless double-butted Robergel spokes, 32-per-wheel, laced to what appear to be Mavic OR10 rims.  The stickers are gone from the rims, but they look exactly like the Mavics.  All bearings throughout have been re-packed and everything spins smoothly and freely.  Cinelli padded saddle in used but good condition.

Brakes are Universal 77 sidepulls, Universal's answer to the Campagnolo calipers.  The bike came to me with them, and I left them as-is.

One especially nice feature is the Cinelli bars covered in Almarc-leather.  Very comfortable, and very long-lived.

Also included are the period tires shown, a pair of matching Clement Criterium Seta tires.  Both hold air at full pressure; the front tire casing is loose in one small spot, but some latex might preserve it for awhile yet.   Base tapes replaced by Tire Alert, but the original inner-tubes remain.  Note Well!  Tires must be properly glued on before use!  At a minimum, these would make fine show-tires.

Otherwise, this bike is ready to ride.  And let me say I've taken it for a couple of short jaunts...and it's a VERY nice ride.  A true thoroughbred racing machine.

Note that I've touched up some light corrosion around the cable-guides on the top-tube with some close match blue metallic.  Other than that, both paint and graphics on this frame are an 8-9 out of 10.  Chrome on the fork is a 10 of 10.  Note the very rare seat-tube band graphics with the small heart-crest logo.

The only other flaw of note is a shallow dimple, smaller than a dime, in the right-side chain-stay directly behind the small chainring, so tough to photograph.  There is no break in the paint.  This dimple no doubt put there by some foolish person to ensure chainring clearance.  In the event, it is invisible, and has no effect whatever on the bike's performance.  The chainstays are in the characteristic De Rosa diamond shape, and provide for plenty of clearance.

Please ask any and all questions before you bid.  Reserve is not low, but is in line with the rarity, condition, and quality of this bicycle.

Shipping to the Far East will be USD500 to 700.  Depending on the final price of the bike, I will cover up to half of worldwide shipping, solely at my discretion.  We'll talk after the auction is completed.  Shipping to the US is a flat-rate for all  locations as shown.  Worldwide locations charged exact shipping by FEDEX or UPS air.

On Jun-28-13 at 19:01:02 PDT, seller added the following information:

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS NOTE WELL: Upon further research, I've determined that I *should* be able to ship the bike to China, Japan, Australia, and other Far Eastern destinations by USPS for around $200, more or less, depending on your exact location. This will require shipment in a very small box, and will require me to dismantle the frame. This is a lot of work. I've done it before, and it takes most of a day to pack a bike down this small and pad it properly for a long trip. For this service I will have to charge an additional $100 for my time and effort. So the fee to ship to the Far East, and Australia will be $250 - $300, or more, depending. If you have questions about this, let me know. I priced the shipment on the USPS site, using a 30 lbs weight and a 32 x 29 x 9 inch package. If for some reason I cannot get the bike packed down that small, I will ship by UPS air, which will cost about $650 depending on your exact location.

On Jun-29-13 at 08:44:50 PDT, seller added the following information:

ADDITIONAL INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING NOTE: I may also be able to ship the bike in two boxes, thus getting around the USPS package-size limitations. In my experience, this generally runs about $150 a box. Sometimes less. Maximum insurance per box is $2400. If you live overseas and you win this bike, we will discuss the options. This two-box option will include a $50 packing charge (two boxes are easier to pack than one small box with everything), for a total of around $350.
