You are bidding on a beautiful 2003 Canada Lunar Silver $15 Sheep coin which comes with the original package as shipped by the Roycal Canadian Mint (coin encapsulated, original outer red box, red velvet case and a COA). The Sheep coin is the sixth of the lunar series and there is only one more year to go to complete the set. Great investment and mintage is 68,888.

The Chinese Lunar Year is the longest chronological record in history, dating back from 2600BC.  The Chinese Lunar Calendar is a yearly calendar based on the cycles of the moon. Because of this cyclical dating, the beginning of the lunar year can fall anywhere between late January to the middle of February. A complete cycle takes 60 years and is made up of 5 cycles of 12 years.

Each Chinese lunar calendar year is named after an animal and the 2003 is the year of the Sheep. There are 12 animals representing the 12 years of the cycle: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. The years of 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991 and 2003 all belong to the year of the Sheep.
