Buy these, not the "box type" lead acid versions.
I've tried heaps of solar powered energizer, and even built my own, but these are the best available right now. I've had mine for over a Year and am now buying more. They are "properly" waterproof. The panels actually charge the batteries! The batteries are long lasting and match the solar panel and fence properly. The system adjusts when there is less daylight but still keeps the fence working, albeit at a slightly less aggressive pulse rate and voltage. Altogether, maybe a bit more expensive than the box type energizers, but worth every penny. It is always a good idea to have a spare energizer on charge in case one of those you're using fails, or if you live in Tassie, as I do, then in the winter you might occasionally have to swap a flat one for a charged one, but not very often. My money is still out on a recommendation... You get what you pay for.
I bought this unit to keep kangaroos from my vegetable garden. I found it worked well, as long as it had a good, consistant source of sun. Since install, I noticed some kangaroo droppings in the back yard, and then touched the fence, and it was dead. The green indicator light was not flashing. Perhaps a couple of hours of shade crossed the panel. I moved the unit into a better position so as to gain as much sun as possible and all has been fine so far. i would not recommened this unit for commercial use, more so, a back yard job. Even though I have given it good credits, (there is no option for an inbetween.) After 2 months, my opinion is still out. A couple of times I have touched the fence, and nothing.... And then... Cheap and practical unit
This has worked well for me for horses with a good zap but I’ve found the batteries go flat and won’t recharge so I go through batteries when it is left not in use for awhile in to my 3 rd set in 3 years . Might be best to remove the batteries when I’m not using it?

Excellent product, compact and long lasting.
I use this unit, my second, in a cattle paddock, to protect my Bee Hives from the livestock. I live in the wet tropics and find this unit will still be operating after 14 day of clouds and rain. I recommend this product to everybody, who has similar situations. I have used other manufacturers before , and find this one to be the best. Cheers Ian G
