QUICK INFO
Fine & Coarse Filtering Pre-filter using strainers or nylon bags (200-1000 micron). Then filter the stuff you can't see using more strainers or filter bags (10-100 micron) Where you stop is your preference. The lower you go, the better chance your fuel filters have of surviving. Typical fuel filters are 4-6 micron. (So using 1 micron for a final filtering is best)

Life Expectancy If you pre-filter (Use a set-up such as 100-50-25-10-5-1) The bags CAN last for 500 gallons each. This assumes you are filtering oil and not dumping all the crap you find at the bottom of containers into them.
If you do not pre-filter and just use a 1 micron bag, it can clog in 10 gallons depending on how dirty the oil is.
