A Dog’s Life RARE ELVIS PRESLEY Outtakes LP
Unreleased Studio and Live Concert Masters! Treasured Memories!
Attention all Elvis fans!
The “A Dog’s Life” LP was released in 1980.
The LP cover has a circa 1950’s Elvis nibbling on the RCA Dog Nipper’s ear…quite appropriate given the LP title. The back cover has a color shot is from “Paradise Hawaiian Style” with Elvis sitting down with a girl resting her head on his leg.
Side One kicks off with “A Dog’s Life” vocal overdub take 8. While the rhythm track was actually recorded on 27 July 1965, the vocal overdub was recorded on 4 August with Elvis cracking up at the end of the song. “Rock A Hula Baby” consists of takes 1, 2, 3 recorded on 23 March 1961. “It’s Over” is taken from the 12 January 1973 Aloha rehearsal show and is one of the most passionate performances from this concert. “There Goes My Everything” is undubbed and was recorded on 8 June 1970. Take 4 of “Home is Where the Heart Is” is incorrectly dated 8 October 1961 on the cover but was actually recorded on 26 October. And for the last track on this side, we head back to the Aloha rehearsal show for “My Way”.
Side Two continues with “Riding the Rainbow” takes 3 and 4 (again incorrectly dated 8 Octpber 1961) were recorded on 26 October with both takes goofed up lyrically. “If I Were You” is from the 8 June 1970 Nashville sessions. “American Trilogy” again takes us to the Aloha rehearsal. “Hawaii USA” take 4 vocal overdub is incorrectly dated as 3 August 1965 but the rhythm track was actually recorded on 27 July with the vocal overdub recorded on 4 August. “Scratch My Back” is incorrectly dated 27 July 1965 but the rhythm track was actually recorded on 26 July and the vocal overdub take 1 we have here was recorded on 3 August. The LP closes out with “Can’t Help Falling In Love” from the Aloha rehearsal show.
