KANGAROO LEATHER 1/2 HIDE.
NATURAL VEG TANNED - NO PROCESSING OTHER THAN THE TANNING.
Thickness is .9 mm (approx).
These 1/2 skins measure about 750 mm long x 400 mm at the hind end and 200 mm at the neck end.
THE SURFACE IS NATURAL.
This is the face side (fur side)
The one in the photo is not the one you will get. You will get a very similar one.
You can see that the tanning of these is very professional and done perfectly.
The face (fur side) surface has been ironed flat to give a magnificent professional smooth finish yet is still a beautiful natural grain. The back (flesh side) surface has been skimmed to provide an even overall thickness to the hide and to give a very nice smooth suede like surface (not brushed).
Veg tanned Kangaroo is stronger than other tannage types. It is always preferred by plaiters and braiders.
It can be readily moulded to form three dimensional shapes such as knife pouches, holsters and special tool cases.
It is not the purpose of this listing to detail how to block form leather. This is the right grade to do it with.
This is also the ideal type if you would like to hand dye it, or hand rub dye it to create that beautiful slightly blotched effect often seen on bags, wrist watch band, belts and accessories, even footwear.
Vegetable tanning makes a leather that is ideal for cutting into thonging and lace for plaiting, whip making and footwear etc. It is less elastic than chrome tanned leather.
All Kangaroo leather will have some beauty marks from the wild environment. These are not imperfections but add character to every item. It can actually be used as a security measure as all markings are unique and cannot be removed.
A NOTE ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THIS LEATHER:-
Most Kangaroo hides available for tanning are a by-product of the carcase abattoirs. These are not, but were professionally produced solely for the purpose of making finest quality leather. They are from country areas with ideal conditions for high quality hides and have been skinned and tanned with care. The end result is this presentation of the highest grade possible. Just look at the photo.
Kangaroo hide is a 100% renewable and sustainable resource. Before harvest it is never treated with chemical dips or drenches of any kind. Neither are the native grass fodders.
To avoid chemicals we freeze our hides at the point of harvest. Thereafter the only treatment is the actual tanning to turn it in to leather. Frozen hides are preferred by our tanners, salted hides tend to produce inferior leather.
Just look at the beautiful result.
This Kangaroo leather is from skins obtained totally lawfully under a strict programme administered by Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection, who govern quotas, licencing & stringent codes of practice. All were skinned accurately by professionals and tanned by a professional commercial tannery licensed under EHP Qld rules who legally deal in Kangaroo. Only species subject to habitat-threatening overpopulation are allowed in the EHP program.
You will get maximum usable area from each skin. They are not reject grade or from unwanted stock, like some listed on ebay.
For export of Kangaroo product out of Australia, there is a small fee for an Australian Customs Export Permit. This is because Kangaroo is native Australian. Obtaining the permit is an easy process and we are very happy to assist international purchasers.
You don't need to do anything after you purchase. We do all the paperwork so you will not have anything to do other than to complete the Ebay checkout.
Below is a copy of our approved current Export Permit.
All inquiries welcome.
