the caledon style.
This vase is alive with detail. Across
the vase, there are mountains and forests. Birds fly across
a sky filled with clouds and the sun. One can even be found
hiding in a tree Turtles play in a stream. A pair of deer frolic
across a lush green field. The artist clearly took his time
to make this vase detailed to the point where you see something
new every time you look at it.
Celadon is a term for ceramics denoting
both a type of glaze and a ware of a specific color, also called
celadon. This type of ware was invented in ancient China, such
as in the Zhejiang province. Celadon has since been spread to
various regions in Asia, such as Northern Thailand.
Celadon glaze refers to a family of
transparent glazes, many with pronounced (and sometimes accentuated)
cracks in the glaze produced in a wide variety of colors, generally
a green hue. Celadon glazes have such popularity and impact
that pieces made with it are often referred to as "celadons."
The vase stands at 11 1/2 inches tall
and is a foot at its widest. Its base diameter is 5 inches.
The vase weighs 10 1/2 pounds.
Given the precision of firing Celadon
pieces, this vase is truly remarkable. It is covered with the
crackled glaze, but in fact has no chips or cracks that we can
find.
This vase would be wonderful not only
as an outstanding decoration, but also as a big curiosity and
conversation piece.
