~*~Hello and thank you for looking~*~
Beautiful! ~*~ ~*~ This rare textile is a fully intact , French , quilted day bed cover dating c1850. This wonderful textile was designed to fit a double bolstered daybed, and has bolstered sections at the top and at the bottom ! ( the last photograph shows a similar textile in use) This textile is called a "lit de travers) ~*~ This gorgeous textile has been 100% hand stitched . The front fabric on this textile is a beautiful arborescent floral madder brown fabric. The colors of this front fabric are all dyed using tones of the madder root, a very stable dye that was used extensively throughout time for its wonderful tones and stability. They have remained wonderfully saturated with time on this textile! ~*~ The colors include: off-white ground, deep rusty red, milk chocolate and deep madder sienna purple. This textile has survived in stunning condition and fully intact. This textile is all hand stitched. There is the original 19th century hand woven trim ( metallic base, wool wrapped) that runs the length and width of this textiles in a lovely pattern and also runs the perimeter of the top bolster holders. The bottom bolster holders are not trimmed. Each of the top bolster holder has a central rosette ( wooden core, silk and wool wrapped). The front fabric is a lovely light to medium weight 100% cotton. This textile is fully backed in a medium weight , homespun linen and cotton mix , natural toned fabric. The hand stitching on this textile is extraordinary! ~ So much work went into creating this textile. This textile was designed to hold a bolster pillow at the top and the sides were valanced to extend on all 2 sides.
MEASUREMENTS : measuring from one side of the bolster holder to the other, it is 49 inches wide. The length from the very top edge to the bottom edge is approx. 80 inches long. The total width from one side to the other is 77 inches wide.
Measuring from the side of the bottom bolster, to the side of the top bolster the length is about 47 inches
Condition: This textile is in as found, unwashed condition. Beautiful condition! The trim has been bent out of shape along this textile and just takes someone to lay them straight and press . There is wear along the trim, but nothing that would stop me from using this textile exactly as is. I have held this textile to the light and only see one tiny hole! Amazing ~ The backing linen has some marks that I am certain wouldn't fully wash. I would recommend however, keeping this textile in as found condition. There are some tiny rust marks on the front fabric. Generally in extraordinary condition. Ideal for any period home or collection. A stunning textile! ~*~

Please email me if condition is vital to your purchase and we can discuss condition in detail. When describing my textiles, I use my best judgment, knowledge and experience to estimate their age. I have had many years of research and hands on experience with these wonderful textiles. I describe items as Antique if I estimate the age to be 100 years of age or greater. EBay currently define an antique as dating to 1930 or earlier. I describe items as Vintage, as per the dictionary definition, if I feel the textile has age, or is outdated or old-fashioned, dating from the past. If I use both Antique/Vintage when describing a textile, it is because I feel the textile is most likely 100 years of age or greater, but may fall just short of that date. I often work in collaboration with other colleagues and textile specialists to ascertain the approximate age of my textiles, however ultimately any statement of age is a matter of best judgment only~*~I also use my best professional judgment to ascertain the fiber content of my textiles, using sight and feel and where possible historical information and context to help me to identify plants used in a particular era. However, because my textiles are old, any statement of fiber content is again always only my best professional assessment. ~*~ I feel privileged and honored to bring these textiles to you, I sincerely thank you for your interest ~*~
