Authenticity: This work was purchased from a well respected Alice Springs Aboriginal Art Gallery in 2006. It will come with the COA from the gallery along with a photograph of the artist with the completed work.


Long Tom Tjapanangka was born in his father's country of Lupul on the border of Western Australia c1929. Long Tom travelled extensively as a young person and joined the cattle industry in the Central desert becoming a valued stockman. He worked on several stations including at Haasts Bluff. He also worked as a police "tracker".

Long Tom became a leading painter in the Haasts Bluff community from 1993. He was married to another famous artist Mitjilli Napurrula. This painting represents a Dreamtime story of the Kuninya carpet snake and its travels west of the Irantji Range to a waterhole. The Irantji range is depicted in the rows of humps.

This is a rare opportunity to purchase one of Long Tom's paintings. He was not a prolific artist and did not paint much in his later years. This painting is painted in thick paint on top quality beligian linen.
