Excellent performance by perhaps the greatest American conductor. I have a couple other performances of this work, but Bernstein's is the best. Sonics are very good, but not quite in the same league as most of the RCA, Mercury Living Presence, or Decca recordings of the same era.

This CD was compiled from two other performances of Copland's work, conducted by Leonard Bernstein. It has been said that Bernstein interpreted Copland even better than Copland, and this combination of Appalachian Spring/Rodeo/Billy the Kid/Fanfare proves it to my way of thinking (having compared Copland directing Copland on App. Spring). Make no mistake, Copland does excellent work on both sides of the podium, and I highly recommend any of his works as directed by him...but somehow Bernstein's famous ebullience carries the day wherever a work by Aaron Copland is concerned.
You can't beat this combined genius of Bernstein conducting Copland. Incredible melodies with remarkable rhythm, dynamics melded with impressive emotion. Not to be missed if you like either of the artists, and a must if you're not yet familiar with them -- ENJOY!
