Additional information
Selections recorded at Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall, Mouri Artworks Studio and Victor Aoyama Studio. BTTB is the 1998 release by Japanese electronic musician (and former Yellow Magic Orchestra Member) Ryuichi Sakamoto. Its songs include "Sonatine", "Intermezzo", and "Lorenz & Watson". Features two bonus tracks, "Snake Eyes" and "Tong Poo" (new version). Ryuichi Sakamoto was a founding member of the very popular Japanese band Yellow Magic Orchestra, who then went on to compose atmospheric soundtracks for films such as MERRY CHRISTMAS MISTER LAWRENCE and Bernardo Bertolucci's THE SHELTERING SKY. BTTB offers a collection of meditative piano pieces in a variety of styles, ranging from Celtic-tinged modality to John Cage to the Debussy-like side of Keith Jarrett. The godfather of the disc, however, must be Erik Satie, whose sublimely static and ritualistic early works are evoked at several junctures. This is dreamy and wistful music that somehow seems to be staring off into the distance, only occasionally waking with a start to the quirky calling of a wrinkle from the real world.
