Up for auction is a fantastic, handmade, hand forged, railroad spike Tomahawk. Made at the Cherokee Son Studio and Forge in New Mexico.
This awesome bearded beauty has an 8 1/2" overall length head and a 4" blade with a 3 1/2" cutting bit. The head is nicely finished to a 320 satin sheen and is tempered to hold a great edge. It is wickedly sharp! I achieved an awesome cobalt blue to peacock heat patina on it. The head has a sculptured profile and a needle sharp 3" spike. The head is permanently attached to the handle.
The solid 14 1/2" handle is Premium Big Leaf maple. Decorated with solid brass headed tacks and solid brass head and butt caps. This is a superb, combat style hawk.
A tomahawk purchased from Cherokee Son will be a valued collectible for years to come. Enjoy your one-of-a-kind.
Here's a little trivia: The spike came from the coke ovens track near Waldo, NM. The town operated till 1940 to make coke from the coal mined at Madrid, NM. Wild Hogs, Young Guns, Silverado and many more movies were filmed near by. It's a very cool area. (Photo # 7. Not me in the photo.).
