I looked at most of those "cheap: digital microscopes on eBay, with everything from 1 MP on up. None really impressed me. When I saw the Celestron line, I checked the PRO model out, and decided to purchase it based on the MP, and the fact that it has some nice features, like a hand held shutter to capture the image, and brightness and zoom control. I had a question about a feature, and called Celestron in Ca. They really helped me out. Couldn't have asked for better! I am using this item for cataloging my stamp collection. Great to use to find the "secret" marks in certain stamps. I have one of their telescopes, and accessories, and bought this item primarily because of the company name. The base that holds the microscope is well made, although I wish it could have a longer focus pole to move the microscope up higher for when I want less magnification. But am happy with this, as I can remove the microscope head, and handhold it, still using the built in shutter on the USB cable. I am very satisfied with this purchase, and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an instrument of very good quality. For the price, it is a great investment!!!Read full review

It works, but I am disappointed and wish I had saved my money. It is fussy to handle and difficult to focus, with an extremely limited depth of field that is especially noticeable if the device is not oriented strictly perpendicular to the surface of the object under scrutiny. I expected more from a Celestron branded product. So, it works - just not as well as I expected and I rarely use it, as I prefer small censor digital cameras and other closeup photo solutions. Just MY take ... your mileage may vary.

I think you'll have to spend a LOT more money to get anything better. The small range of magnification, coupled with magnification from an application like "paint", will give you a very good print. The program that comes with this magnifier, is easy to install, and easy to use. If you need to look at something that is too big for the stand (stage), you can turn the scope around on it's mounting post and put a weight on the base and have it look over the edge of your desk. (build up staging surface on a drawer that you pull out of the desk). Very portable. You can take your laptop and this scope into the field! I wish there was a little easier way to "fine adjust" the focus, without putting too much pressure on the whole setup.

the product is excellent, software is also good, in some situations lighting needs to be changed to something else like a high intensity single LED for example. The base/stand is wobbly at high res. or high mag. so either a different one or improving the existing one worked for me. The color rendering is good.

I have to put small mag photos of items in my engineering reports for failure analysis. This magnification range is good for me, and the shot goes directly into a photo file. The resolution is more than adequate for the presentation media I use (laser printers and computer screens). Great addition to my tools.
