Classic Records has issued the complete works of T-Bone Walker in a chronological series, and this fourth installment, which covers 1952 to 1954, finds Walker firmly ensconced in his Imperial Records tenure. Walker's Imperial work finds the guitarist/singer's penchant for hard, rhythmic blues couched, for the first time, in big-band accompaniments that swing nicely and don't detract much from the intensity of his performances. The later sides are more rhythm-heavy, sounding closer and closer to the rock-&-roll movement Walker helped inspire. For straight, satisfying blues and blazing leads, it's hard to go wrong with Walker, and this CLASSICS installment is no exception.
