Here is a rather lovely example of an early old antique collar & cuff box manufactured in the 1930's & 1940's.
Made out of celluloid or xylonite & often referred to as ivorine due to its ivory like appearance. Also called pyralin by some.
It is wonderful condition for its age, in fact nothing bad to report about it.
No spots or discolouration which is remarkable as items like this & of this age are usually quite stained.
The lid fits well & has a beautiful firmly fastened knob on its top.
The base sits flat on a flat surface with no rock or wobble.
Manufactured in England as finely imprinted on the base. Too small to photograph.
I have used it for my sewing buttons, pins, etc. Could be used for cotton balls, hair ties, etc. Too special for make up & nail polish though!
A very inexpensive listing price… I paid much more for this from our local antique centre.
Over the years I have collected lots of celluloid pieces & it's now time to share as I have too many.
Measurements width base across 16.5 cms, height base 6.7 cms, width lid across 17.5 cms, height lid excluding decorative knob approx 1.5 cms, lid on base height base to top of knob approx 10.5 cms, width knob 2.5 cms, height knob 2 cms, inside base depth 6.2 cms, inside width across 16 cms.
Please take a good look at my photos as they form part of the description.
