Edwin Edwards (1823-1879) Well collected English Etcher/artist, Industrial town

Edwin EDWARDS (1823-1879)

Etching, English Industrial Town

Offered for sale is this medium sized etching by the well known and well regarded English artist, Edwin Edwards (1823-1879), signed by him and dated '66.

The database, ArtPrice, lists 7 sales of prints/etchings by him, for an average price of US$193.50. I find in the English store, one for sale for $US385.00. Searching Google (particular will reveal a host of entries about Edwards. He has his own Wikipedia page, but no where can I find another copy of this etching, and hence I can’t identify the town. From one of those bibliographic entries

Edwin Edwards was a wealthy lawyer who devoted most of his time to art rather than his practice. Edwards was an important collector, but also a painter and etcher of real skill. Edwin Edwards was close to Whistler (who for some private joke called him "Charles Price"), and it was Whistler who introduced Edwards to his closest artistic ally Fantin-Latour. Fantin-Latour's double portrait of Edwin Edwards and his wife is in the Tate Gallery.

This Etching was purchased at auction in Brisbane (Antique & Fine Arts, 19/12/2011, Lot 237a), and was fully attributed to him. There is a diagonally placed signature saying “Edwards ‘66” at the bottom left of this etching, which has proved difficult to photograph. The etching appears to have been professionally reframed recently; The image is 16.5 by 27cms, the outer frame size is 37 by 46.5 cms. The outer matte is a light cream colour, and the frame is a dark brown with gold highlights. The outer matte has had lines drawn on to better frame the etching. The etching seems in perfect condition, with no foxing or marks. It features a cathedral, surrounded by cottages, but also with commercial type buildings, smokestacks etc.

I can post this around Australia, securely packed, with Australia Post for $20.00. Alternatively, for Queensland buyers this painting can be picked up (local pick-up) in my rooms in Logan Central, or in Holland Park West, both just off the M1. PayPal is my preferred payment option.

Be aware that we take considerable time and trouble making sure paintings are very securely packed, and well protected for shipment. International buyers (PayPal only please) please contact me by E-Bay email for a quote on shipping.

My hobby (indeed, passion) is restoring old paintings, or alternatively presenting more recent paintings in the best possible condition. Unless stated otherwise all paintings are as near as possible to mint condition.

For all E-Bay Items PayPal is our preferred payment option

We very carefully pack all paintings to prevent damage in transit, particularly if glass is involved. E-bayers frequently comment on the security of our packaging, though we may charge a little extra as it adds a little weight to the shipping costs. Generally shipping costs are quoted in the item description. If not too big, we use Australia Post. If not, we send by SmartSend/Allied Transport, which we find very good and reliable. Pickup is available in Logan Central, Queensland, about 5 minutes off the M-1. International buyers should contact me for exact quotes (we're quite happy to take items out of frames for lighter weight in international shipping). For all shipments we promptly keep in contact by E-bay E_Mail so you know what's going on.

We generally sell paintings etc. on a no-return basis. If the paintings is damaged in transit, is not as described, or is wrongly attributed to an artist we will, of course, discuss this fully with you, and YES, we have occasionally taken paintings back. However, we provide excellent pictures, full descriptions etc., so we expect you to keep the painting.

The restoration and selling of paintings is a part time hobby of mine, and one that I thoroughloy enjoy. Most of the paintings we buy, clean up, restore and re-frame are initially purchased at auctions around Australia, and as such we often have little provence. Where possible we do a lot of research about the artist, including current prices, which often leads to lengthy item descriptions, but helps to establish the value of the painting.

The best way is by E-bay E-mail, which is monitored three or four times a day. Unles sthere is an exceptional reason I'm often unavailable to take phone calls.
