CAPRI MK1 3000 GXL FACELIFT MODEL MAUVE / PURPLE / VELVET 1973 RPO 200M with 4 speed manual gearbox

RPO 200M was purchased by Mr Brian Cyril Betteridge on February 1974 for the sum of £1,824.
Capri 3000 GXL was to manufacturers standard specification & included the
special metallic Purple Velvet paint, black vinyl roof, opening sunroof &
has since received a bare metal respray (in 2010) in the original rare shade of
Purple Velvet - due to micro blistering of the old paint, caused by the time it
spent in storage. The underside of the shell & inside of the engine bay has
been painted Purple Velvet. The engine bay which is exceptionally clean &
detailed. The shell was painted to perfection. Many New Old Stock Ford parts
were sourced & replaced to finish her off with no expense spared, a real
credit to its previous owner. Attention to detail is superb!
RPO 200M still retains all its existing original factory Ford panels & has never been welded. It still retains its original number plates.
RPO 200M is registered to both the Capri Mk1 Owners Club & the Capri MK1 Register.
The pictures show RPO 200M at the Classic & Sportscar Action Day at Castle Combe, Wiltshire. Between Friday 12th to Sunday 14th November 2010, RPO 200M appeared at the prestigious NEC Classic Motor Show, Birmingham, on the Capri MK1 Owners Club stand. This was the last night it was out & since has been dry stored.

The Capri GXL has the best of everything & Ford decided its top of the range Capri should look different to the lower classes of Capri's. The 3.0 litre V6 engine is, of course, completely standard with no modifications to engine, body exterior/interior. Original sports road steel wheels with matching 185/70 R 13 radial ply Yokohama S306 tyres & original spare steel wheel with unused Pirelli Cinturato tyre. Ford car jack kit secured in the boot compartment. The GXL has a unique grille style. Unique bright metal mouldings, body-side rubbing strip with vinyl insert, and back panel applique. Lots of Chrome! And so are many other luxury features such as the heated rear window, opening rear quarter windows, the twin round Lucas halogen headlamps, the simulated wood grain finish on the facia, and centre console. Cowlside map pockets, dual twin tone horns, engine compartment light, boot compartment light and a push button orginal Ford radio together with a whole host of other luxury details make the GXL the undisputed Capri of Capri's, hence its ergonomical & well designed. Everything is in the right place & it feels like the cabin of a modern car. In fact the GXL being the very last line of Ford's MK1’s infamous coupe, the GXL has acheived legendry status. This is not just any Capri but a special one as its got that label badge! If you are looking for a Capri that's rare and that puts a smile on your face - Look no further - This is the One!
This is a real enthusiasts classic collectors car and is extremly sought after & rare!
In 2010, RPO 200M featured in the BBC1 documentary series, ''The Young Ones'', which transported celebrities of the 1970's back in time to their heyday. Former International Test Cricket Umpire, Dickie Bird travelled in the car.
This has got to be the pick of the pre-1973 cars: This V6 model is a totally different animal which has real natural rasp sound which is awesome! It has a superior torque and power, while the legs and springs are stiffer ensuring a much firmer ride. Once you turn the key & the straight-through twin exhaust pipes proudly announce V6 power while having an anti-gravity effect on your mouth. The GXL has the sort of suspension that makes you feel you are riding in an armchair comfort - even around tight corners. But nail the throttle and everything tightens up as the low - down torque of that Essex engine propells you forward with gusto. Easing off the throttle a little only has you anticipating your next bout of straight-line fun! This is my true living experience!
Starts first turn - engine is totally dry - no leaks - does not make any silly noises - no smoke - no rattling or squeaky noises - This car actually looks & drives better than new!
If you want to re-discover your inner manly man, then treat yourself to all that glorious V6 power of a beast which has charm & brutality & exhilarating performance & sexy looks. Remember its more than the car you promised yourself! You can live that forgotten dream & wake up to it!
The interior is unmarked & original. The tan seats are the original ones with firm-hold sides are upholstered in vinyl with the unique fabric inserts (same as the RS3100 & GT seats, dotted/pinned) Not the reproduction after market, as those feel different than the original. No sign of any wear either, on bolsters, fabric area & no fading. All the pipe lining around the seats are intact. These seats are still strong and firm with no sound of springs, bounce or a saggy experience! The parcel shelf & the door cards are tan along with the headlining & the carpet black. No cracks to the dashboard with all fans & electrics working,
I have old MOT's, tax discs, receipts and invoices, handbooks & the original Ford Capri GXL brochures for this car.
The current MOT was issued on the 14th June 2012 with no advisory, odometer reading 48727.
There are still a few Ford Capri Mk1’s which every now and then appear on the market but we all know that Ford only made a limited number of the Ford Capri GXL as at the time of production, there was world fuel crisis going on & Ford was preparing the launch the Mk2, hence the very few actually made. Today, I can honestly say that there are far & few between! I travel all around the country to visit classic & Ford motor shows & I rarely come across any GXL's & I have not seen one in this special rare Purple Velvet colour.
Do not let this one go as you will be kicking yourself and regretting it. This car is a real attention seeker, so if you looking on making friends, believe me this is the one to start conversations!
