It's finally time tosell my beloved Les Paul Custom... a decision I did not come to lightly... Buta few dollars are required for the building of a studio at home and that ismore important at this moment... SO...
This guitar comes witha heritage. I have owned it for 11 years. It belonged to a very good friend ofmine, and every time I played it, I loved it. I finally convinced her to sellit to me! Whilst she owned it, Dave Leslie from the Baby Animals used it onthe recording of their second album, Shavedand Dangerous. I spent 7 yearstouring with Shania Twain, playing all around the world, many TV appearances,TV specials, award shows etc etc ... and I used this guitar in the early partof the "Up!" tour... particularly a show in Kilkenny, Ireland on July5th 2003, and a big show in Hyde Park, London on July 12th - still my favouriteshow EVER with Shania. I'm not certain if theneck has been refinished or not... but there is no obvious sign that it has...It certainly has had no work done to it in the time I've owned it, or the timethat my friend owned it before me.. and that would total the last 20 years. The neck on these 1972Anniversary Les Paul's (I've ended up playing a few of them...) is particularlyslim, unlike lots of Les Paul's - especially later models - where I've found the necks to be a bittree-trunk-like. This is perfect for me - I don't have massive hands, and thisjust felt instantly comfortable - one of the reasons I pursued the guitar 11years ago. I DO know that theelectronics are not original... for most of the time that I have hadit, it has had 2 Seymour Duncan 59's in it... 59B in the bridge and of course,a 59N in the neck position. I changed out the bridge pickup for a beautifulpickup made by a friend of mine on the central coast near Wyong, Warren Adams. He winds 2 different humbuckers... this is the higher output of the 2, butstill not what I'd call 'hot'... lots of tone and scream. I have changed thevolume pot on the bridge pickup because it had given up the ghost, butotherwise the electronics are as they have been for the past 20 years. If youwould prefer that I put the Duncan 59 back in, I'm more than happy to do that, and completely understand. There are the normalscratches and dings that you'd expect with a guitar that is more than 40 yearsold, and has actually been used, rather than put in a show cabinet... but overallit's in great shape. I will include thenormal scratchplate, and pickup covers as well. Also included will be theoriginal case that the guitar was bought with, way back in '72 from HarryLandis Music... I'm afraid I am old enough to remember that store in Park St,Sydney, and I would regularly go and ogle all the Gibson guitars on my way tomy guitar lessons thru the late 70's. Shortly after buying the guitar, I boughta new case for it because it needed better protection when touring. That casestill has the luggage tag on it from travelling under the tour bus, because Ioften used this guitar in my hotel room for writing. It's quite precious to me.I've recorded a bunch of songs with it here at home, often detuned at least atone, and then with a drop D... sounds utterly massive. I've seen 2 of thesein completed items - one sold for around $8k, the other for a bit under$5k... I always thought this wasworth at least $5k. So any offer over that I'll accept. Thanks for taking thetime to read this
Any questions - let meknow. All the best, and cheers.
Randall PS: my nickname inShania's band was 'Mr. X' - that's why there is an 'X' on the guitar behind thebridge... but it's only a sticker and will come off easily. All my guitars havea X on them somewhere. There are one or 2other snaps of this guitar on my facebook page... check it out
PPS: oops! Seems I e made an honest error! When I bought the gtr it was sold to me as a 72.... Seems its a 74.... Being the 20th anniversary of the LP Custom... Oh well... Thanks for the heads Checazzvo!
