These are fairly good for servers, but do not expect an easy matchup to memory sticks, especially if you are trying to get the advertised speed of 1600 with 16gb. You can only run 8gb in most of them, at the 1600 speed. Otherwise it is 1333 at 16gb (4x4). They will not take 8gb sticks, even at low density chips. Also, the AHCI for running SSDs is finicky and some will only run in IDE mode.

This is a great motherboard! My CPU is an Intel QX6850 and this motherboard allowed my to switch from DDR2 to DDR3. Getting the right memories is key to rock with this motherboard, I have found very helpful a previous review, where the Kingston HyperX 16GB Kit 4x4GB PC3-12800 1600MHz Non-ECC DDR3 KHX1600C9D3K4/16GX were used with great success on this motherboard and I did the same, so I am using a total of 16GB DDR3 between it's 4 memory slots, these memories were detected and set up automatically with the right parameters by the BIOS. Please keep in mind that this motherboard will not work with more than 4GB DDR3 per slot. The GA-EP45T-UD3LR, is working absolutely stable and faster than my previous motherboard. My BIOS settings are mostly in AUTO, I also selected Standard options over Turbo. I am using 3 SSDs. I tested the RAID options RAID0 and RAID5, (these are some of the available RAID options coming with this motherboard) and it worked without any problem and it was easy to configure. Now, I am using Linux to run the GA-EP45T-UD3LR and it works perfectly too. I also added a new Ethernet Card, 2.5GBase-T PCIe Network Adapter with 1 Port, 2500/1000/100Mbps PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Card RJ45 LAN Controller Support Windows Server/Windows/Linux, just to get extra internet speed, but this is not a must to do since this motherboard already have an integrated Ethernet card.Read full review

This motherboard gave new life to a Q9550 suffering from 4GB max RAM at DDR2 speeds. The upgrade of the chipset, RAM speed, PCIe 2nd Gen, and many other things was very welcome. Even though the RAM is not on the compatibility chart for this board I bought KHX1600C9D3K4/16GX which is 16GB of Kingston HyperX and it works perfectly. The BIOS offers more options for voltage, clocks, etc than what we have ever seen in a motherboard. A true value for the price.
