Grateful Dead The Golden Road 12 CD set 160 tracks
There is no denying the music of the Grateful Dead. At various times thrilling, adventurous, simple, futuristic, old-fashioned, ethereal, abominable, ridiculous, and sublime - it bears this kind of deep exploration Grateful Dead The Golden Road (1965-1973) 12 disc bonanza offers spanning a fantastically creative nine-year period for Warner Bros. In 1965, they were a bunch of ex-folk and bluegrass musicians who were looking to jump on the rock bandwagon driven by the Beatles. The ensuing decade found them travel a sort of circular path that began with revved-up renditions of their folk and blues favorites. Then they maneuvered through intense, far-reaching, mind-blowing psychedelic experiments, settled into timeless stripped-down Americana, and ended atop a mountain where folk, blues, country, jazz, and psychedelic rock lived in near-perfect harmony.
All of the band's nine official Warner releases (five studio discs, four live) have been superbly remastered and buffed with extra tracks that include unheard studio jams and outtakes, plus contemporaneous live cuts. There's also two discs' worth (one studio, one live) of rare early material that predates their Warner Bros. debut. Each "album" comes in its own package with its own notes, while the box itself offers a 75-page booklet filled with thoughtful essays, personal reflections, and great photos. Featuring superior sound and wonderful packaging it's a challenge not to buy this exquisite collection.
Grateful Dead The Golden Road (1965-1973) 12 CD boxed set is brand new; it is unopened, unplayed and still in its original factory shrink wrap. Here is the definitive look at the Grateful Dead's formative years featuring...
Birth of the Dead: The Studio Sides- A disc of the Dead's earliest sessions in their entirety. This captures the Dead as a very loose garage band. Shows much influence from the music of early electric Bob Dylan and other folk rock acts of the day. 1 Early Morning Rain (Previously Unissued Version) 2 I Know You Rider (Previously Unissued Version) 3 Mindbender(Confusion's Prince) (Previously Unissued Version) d 4 The Only Time Is Now (Previously Unissued Version) 5 Caution (Do Not Stop On The Tracks) d 6 Can't Come Down - By The Warlocks 7 Stealin' (Previously Unissued Instrumental Version) 8 Stealin' (Vocal Version) 9 Don't Ease Me In (Previously Unissued Instrumental Version) 10 Don't Ease Me In (Vocal Version) 11 You Don't Have To Ask 12 Tastebud (Previously Unissued Instrumental Version) 13 Tastebud (Vocal Version) 14 I Know You Rider (Scorpio Sessions Version) 15 Cold Rain And Snow (Previously Unissued Instrumental Version) 16 Cold Rain And Snow (Previously Unissued Vocal Version) 17 Fire In The City (From the Film Sons and Daughters)
Birth of the Dead: The Live Sides- Some early material. Relatively typical of an early Dead concert as they explore folk, blues, and rock and spice it up with their own charisma. Though not as engaging as more legendary Dead performances still good. All tracks are previously unissued Live recordings made in San Francisco in 1966. 1 Viola Lee Blues 2 Don't Ease Me In 3 Pain In My Heart 4 Sitting On Top Of The World 5 It's All Over Now Baby Blue 6 I'm A King Bee 7 Big Boss Man 8 Standing On The Corner 9 In The Pines 10 Nobody's Fault But Mine 11 Next Time You See Me 12 One Kind Favor 13 He Was A Friend Of Mine 14 Keep Rolling By
The Grateful Dead- The first official album. Released right before the Summer of Love, it has important historical value as well as what could be the definition of San Fran psych rock. It is the perfect listen for people studying on the San Fran - Haight Ashbury scene of the mid-late 60s. Some of the tracks are drawn from their old jug-band repertoire, and others are just blues covers. But they do a top job on each cover, and come up with some great early band originals. 1 The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion) (Remastered Version) 2 Beat It On Down The Line (Remastered LP Version) 3 Good Morning Little School Girl (Full-Length Version) 4 Cold Rain And Snow 5 Sitting On Top Of The World (Full Length Version) 6 Cream Puff War (Full Length Version) 7 Morning Dew (Full Length Version) 8 New New Minglewood Blues (Full length Version) 9 Viola Lee Blues (LP Version) 10 Alice D. Millionaire (LP Version) (Previously Unreleased) 11 Overseas Stomy (The Lindy Hop) (LP Version) (Previously Unreleased) 12 Tastebud (LP Version) (Previously Unreleased) 13 Death Don't Have No Mercy (LP Version) 14 Viola Lee Blues (Edited Version) 15 Viola Lee Blues (Live Version)
Anthem of the Sun- The second album, containing studio and live tracks merged together to make for a very experimental and interesting album. The Dead are looser and more psychadelic, most notably on their always essential That's It For the Other One jam and the bluesy Caution. Some of the Dead's most psychadelically experimental rock. 1 That's It For The Other One (Parts I-IV) (LP Version) 2 New Potato Caboose (LP Version) 3 Born Cross-Eyed (Remastered LP Version) 4 Alligator (Remastered LP Version) 5 Caution (Do Not Stop On The Tracks) (LP Version) 6 Alligator (Live in Los Angeles Version) 7 Caution (Do Not Stop On The Tracks) (Live In Los Angeles 1968 Version) 8 Feedback (Live In Los Angeles 1968 Version) 9 Born Cross-Eyed (Single Version)
Aoxomoxoa - Recorded when the band was making the natural transistion from bluesy psychedelic music and into a more folkish country sound. you can really hear the two musical realms butt heads. The album still remains a favorite amongst Deadheads and includes concert staples such as "Saint Stephen", "China Cat Sunflower" and "Cosmic Charlie". 1 St. Stephen (Remastered LP Version) 2 Dupree's Diamond Blues (Remastered LP Version) 3 Rosemary (Remastered LP Version) 4 Doin' That Rag (Remastered LP Version) 5 Mountains Of The Moon (Remastered LP Version) 6 China Cat Sunflower (Remastered LP Version) 7 What's Become Of The Baby (Remastered LP Version) 8 Cosmic Charlie (Remastered LP Version) 9 Clementine Jame (Live in San Mateo, CA 1968 Version) 10 Nobody's Spoonful Jam (Live in San Mateo, CA 1968 Version) 11 The Eleventh Jam (Live in San Mateo, CA 1968 Version) 12 Cosmic Charlie (Live at The Avalon in San Francisco 1969 Version)
Live/Dead- The Dead's first full length live album is certainly one of the best psychedelic albums ever. Grabs you and doesn't let you go. All time classic jams such as Dark Star and The Eleven make this an all time Dead essential. 1 Dark Star (Live at The Fillmore West San Fran 1969 Remastered Version) 2 St. Stephen (Live at The Fillmore West San Fran 1969 Remastered Version) 3 The Eleven (Live In San Fran 1969 Remastered Version) 4 Turn On Your Love Light (Remastered Live at San Francisco Version) 5 Death Don't Have No Mercy (Live at The Fillmore West San Fran 1969 Remastered Version) 6 Feedback (Live at The Fillmore West San Fran 1969 Remastered Version) 7 And We Bid You Goodnight (Remastered Version) 8 Dark Star (Remastered Single Version) 9 WB Commercial for Live/Dead
Workingman's Dead - The first great studio album - an ode to simple Americana music. Moving away from the psychedelic experimentation of previous albums, Workingman's Dead is mostly lighthearted folk and country, containing such classics as Uncle John's Band, Cumberland Blues, and Casey Jones. Most of the songs have a melodic quality to them, indicating these veterns of Acid Test freakouts are ready to relax in a more folksy groove for awhile. It also features the continuing growth of Garcia-Hunter as songwriters. 1 Uncle John's Band (Remastered Version) 2 High Time (Remastered LP Version) 3 Dire Wolf (Remastered LP Version) 4 New Speedway Boogie (Remastered LP Version) 5 Cumberland Blues (Remastered LP Version) 6 Black Peter (Remastered LP Version) 7 Easy Wind (Remastered LP Version) 8 Casey Jones (Remastered Version) 9 New Speedway Boogie (Alternate Mix) (Previously Unissued) 10 Dire Wolf (Live at Santa Rosa's Veterans Hall in Santa Rosa, CA 1969 Version) 11 Black Peter (Live at Golden Hall in San Diego 1970 Version) 12 Easy Wind (Live at Springers Ballroom in Portland, Oregon 1970 Version) 13 Cumberland Blues (Live at Oregon State University 1970 Version) 14 Mason's Children (Live at The Civic Auditorium in Honolulu, HI 1970 Version) ead 15 Uncle John's Band (Live at the Winterland San Fran 1970 Version) 16 Workingman's Dead
American Beauty- By far, the band's best studio album. Catchy, lighthearted, and shows the Dead's maturity as musicians in full bloom. Mellow classics such as Sugar Magnolia, Box of Rain, Ripple, and Truckin' make this the Dead's greatest. 1 Box Of Rain (Remastered Version) 2 Friend Of The Devil (Remastered Version) 3 Sugar Magnolia (Remastered Version) 4 Operator (Remastered LP Version) 5 Candyman (Remastered LP Version) 6 Ripple (Remastered Version) 7 Brokedown Palace (Remastered LP Version) 8 Till The Morning Comes (Remastered LP Version) 9 Attics Of My Life (Remastered LP Version) 10 Truckin' (Remastered Version) 11 Truckin' (Remastered Single Version) 12 Friend Of The Devil (Live at The Winterland Ballroom 1970 Version) 13 Candyman (Live at The Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, CA 1970 Version) 14 Till The Morning Comes (Live at The Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, CA 1970 Version) 15 Attics Of My Life (Live at The Fillmore West in San Francisco, CA 1970 Version) 16 Truckin' (Live in El Monte, CA 1970 Version) 17 Hidden Track #1 (a great, live version of Ripple) 18 Hidden Track #2 (a hilarious 60-second radio spot for the album)

Europe '72 Perhaps the all time greatest Dead album. Two live discs of essential Dead, churning, folk and country rock favorites along with one of their greatest live jams (Truckin', Epilogue, Prelude, Morning Dew).
