A/S Helle Fabrikker was established in 1932 by the brothers Steinar and Sigmund Helle in the old blacksmith shop of the family farm, outside the village of Holmedal. Their father was the village smith and he had passed on the craft traditions on to his sons.

Today, A/S Helle Fabrikker employs about 40 people. They are Norways leading knife manufacturer, and about two thirds of their capacity is applied to the production of knives for hunting, angling and outdoor use. The remainder their production focuses on the manufacture of hot forged knife blades for silver cutlery, where they cover 80% of the Scandinavian market.

The Helle knife...

Helle knives are designed to meet the stresses and strains of outdoor use. Thus it goes through up to 45 different manual operations in the production process.
It is a point of honour among their craftsmen that every Helle knife is a synonym for quality.

Unique in Helle knives is the laminated stainless steel used to produce a tough, razor-sharp blade. The technology was developed by Helle in cooperation with a Norwegian steel mill. This high performance steel is available only in their knives, and gives each blade a unique combination of high strength and long lasting sharpness. Laminated steel is another Norwegian tradition that is rarely found in other parts of the world.

At Helle, each knife is hand crafted by experienced and dedicated tradesmen. Each blade is shaped to achieve a shaving sharp edge. Knife handles of carefully selected arctic curly birch and aged wood are shaped to precise dimensions and finished to a hand rubbed patina. Each wood handle fits the hand comfortably and has its own distinctive grain and figure, making your Helle knife one of a kind.

 Helle takes as much pride in crafting their handsome sheaths as they do their knives. Fine leathers, of the quality used in the making of the best saddles, are vegetable tanned in accordance with strict quality control standards. After forming and stitching, the finished sheath is rubbed with saddle leather greased to produce its lustre and protect against stains and moisture.

Uncompromising steel quality
The differences between a Helle knife and other knives are many. The biggest difference lies in their triple laminated stainless steel blade. The core is made of high alloy steel which gives it a lasting, razor-sharp edge. It is protected by two layers of tough stainless steel(18/8). These layers protect the blade against breakage and corrosion, while the high carbon core provides a superb cutting edge. This triple laminated stainless steel is unique to Helle knife blades. The steel they use is more expensive than in most other knife brands, but that is all a part of Helles philosophy of never compromising on quality.
