I selected these headphones because I previously had some like these and loved them! I wanted to have these to use while doing online studying to help improve my focus and concentration. This is a tremendous help for me. (music sounds fantastic as well! :) )

Bought 2 pairs, The sound quality for the price is good. However I bought them for noise canceling. There is absolutely no sound deadening, noise canceling or any other outside noise removal. I gave them to my granddaughter she loves them

First, let me say that these are not the best headphones I've ever owned. However, these do a damn fine job of reproducing a stereo soundstage. I've bought two examples of this product and I observe that one does a better job of noise cancelling than the other. I originally intended one pair for outdoor DJ work and the other for my desk at work. Haven't had the chance to test for the outdoor set but the work set performs great. Now a word about "noise cancelling". Just like the "water resistant" watch or the "vibration reduction" camera lens, these terms have to be viewed with a grain of salt. The second word in the phrase really does tell the story. Resistant, and reduction are not the same as elimination. The same goes for "cancelling". When turned on you will notice the noise fade into background. With an audio signal supplied to the headphones the "noise" seems to completely disappear. With the signal removed, you will notice that the noise is still there but so far in the back as to be of little consequence. So, while it may not do as good a job as a set of Bose at noise cancelling and not as good as a set of electrostatic 'phones at music reproduction, for the price it is a great alternativeRead full review
I first bought a Sennheiser headset that sounded great, but did not block ambient sound. Since I use my headset for my exercise walks, outside, and while there is a TV on in the house, I decided I wanted a set with active sound cancellation. This headset is a great buy for the money and has a convenient cord rewind in the left earpiece, so no tangled wires. My only disappointment was discovering that the active sound cancelling does NOT work on higher-pitched sounds NOR DOES IT BLOCK WIND NOISE, so on windy days, they're not so great. Overall, a great product for a great price. I'd also like to say that BEATS are the most overpriced junk on the market - I have a pair of Beats earbuds - mediocre at best.
I have had several sets of noise-cancelling headphones in the past include Bose. These JVC headphones are excellent for the price. Highly recommend.
