GSM refers to grams per square meter of fabric. It is the major computation unit for fabric texture, usually expressed in momme weight (m/m). Because silk is such a fine fabric, it is generally measured by “momme weight” instead of thread count.  Momme (pronounced “mummy”)is a unit of weight used to measure and describe silk fabrics.The higher the momme, the heavier the fabric.  With higher m/m, the fabric is thicker in texture and of higher value due to the higher content of silk per square meter. It is measured by momme weight per square meter. 1m/m=4.3g

Why Silk

How To Identify Silk

1.      Rub it:

By vigorously rubbing the pile with your open palm. You will find that real silk feels warm, artificeial silk stays cool to the touch.

2.      Burn it:

Look at the ash and smell the smoke. If the material is cellulose (rayon), the ash should be soft and chalky, and the smell should be like burning paper ( most paper is made of cellulose). If the sample is real silk, the burning sample should ball to a black, crispy ash, and the smell should be of burning hair.
