The Vladimir Icon of Our Mother of God

Feast on May 21 / June 3 / June 23 / July 6 / August 26 / September 8

According to tradition, the icon was painted by Saint Luke, the Apostle and Evangelist.  During the XII century the icon was transferred from Constantinople to Kiev.  For a long time the icon was kept in Vyshhorod.  Later on, in a miraculous way, our Most Holy Lady decided to bring her portrait to the city of Vladimir.  The transfer of the miraculous icon to Vladimir took place during the reign of Prince Andrew Bogoliubski.  Today, the icon is on permanent display in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
