Mrs. Lambert, Madeleine, and Mom completes a Lambert family trilogy; Brothers and Heroes-A Chronicle of Military Service of Six Americans and Eddie, My Old Man were the first 2 works in the series. To think of Mrs. Lambert, a.k.a. Mom, without remembering her cooking is impossible. Therefore, her story incorporates favorite recipes for timeless and tasty cakes, cookies, and candies, gleaned from her hand-written tebook. Mrs. Lambert, Madeleine, and Mom recalls a strong woman that raised 8 boys during times of dire ecomic and personal difficulties yet foresaw better days for her boys if they followed her guiding path to a good education. Although the older boys did t originally heed her pleas to pursue schooling beyond elementary school, Mom lived long eugh to see her adult sons return to the classroom for degrees or professional training that allowed them to become successful and productive members of their communities. Mrs. Lambert, Madeleine, and Mom portrays a woman of strong personal beliefs that she imparted to her boys. Hard work, persistence and perseverance, religion, family cohesion and community service were t merely words for Mom: they were the essence of life. Mom's final years, spent in a nursing home due to a debilitating stroke, proved trying t only for her but also for family. We choose to remember her t as the depressed individual confined to a wheelchair and unable to provide for her basic needs, but as the vibrant, smiling Mom that lived for her Eddie and her boys.
