 Important notice if you are new to monofilament nets:

Please note that these types of nets are different to the old style multifilament / weaved/knitted twine nets.

Monofilament nets are designed to be very light and be invisible in water, to catch fish more efficiently; fish touch the net and become entangled.

The net must be treated carefully; fish pulled out very gently to avoid tearing.

Always re-sort the net before fishing and clean and wash after to avoid self tangling. Don’t set these nets in a current or waves.

A good idea is to tie it to something on the bank or put anchors on the ends.

These nets stay on the bottom of water.

These nets are designed to stay still, not to be trawled or dragged.

How to choose net:

Gill nets catch fish that attempt to swim through the net, which are caught if they are of a size large

enough to allow the head to pass through the meshes but not the rest of the body.

The fish then becomes entangled by the gills as it attempts to back out of the net.

The mesh size used depends upon the species and size range being targeted.
