Design
An unique upper construction bonds narrow strips of tough, super-thin material directly to water-resistant mesh in key areas for an innovative blend of breathability and support. The inner-sleeve provides a snug feel, yet it's dynamic enough to move with the natural motion of the foot.

Cushioning
Without sacrificing the feel of barefoot running, the Nike Free Run+ 2 Shield delivers a plush, cushioned ride. Phylite material seamlessly fuses the midsole with the outsole, creating a one-piece design that's as resilient as it is durable. The molded sockliner mimics the curves of the foot for a comfortable, supportive fit.

Flexibility
Deep flex grooves along the outsole allow the foot to move naturally in multiple directions. The heel features a "center of pressure" design that provides additional cushioning on contact, maximizing overall flexibility.

Origins
After learning that Stanford athletes had been training barefoot on the university's golf course, three of Nike's most innovative and creative employees set out to develop a shoe that felt natural and weightless, just like bare feet. In 2002, they examined a group of men and women with pressure-measuring insoles taped to their feet, using high-speed cameras to capture images of each foot in motion.

The team spent eight years studying the biomechanics of shoeless running. The results yielded a profound understanding of the foot's natural landing angle, pressure and toe position, allowing Nike designers to build an unconventional and flexible running shoe from the inside out.
