Product Description:

Listing Update...We have very few boxed sets left in the longer (172.5 mm) crankarm length.

This offering is for a new-old-stock Shimano 105SC crankset (Model FC-1055) that is in it's original retail box. Date coding indicates an early 90's model and Shimano's 105 drivetrain during this era was index (or as Shimano used to call it, "SIS") shifting capable. We also believe it was during this period (1990 to be exact) that Shimano redesigned the 105 drivetrain to incorporate their Hyperglide technology.

The crankset would have been marketed as compatible with Shimano's 7-speed drivetrain components of this era, but it should function with a number of other drivetrains. The key in this regard is to make sure the crankset is matched with the correct bottom bracket to ensure proper chainline (and Shimano specs. proper chainline on a double crankset to be 43.5 mm). To achieve this desired chainline, our Shimano catalogs indicate a 68 mm x 113 mm square tapered (JIS standard) bottom bracket is recommended for an English threaded frame (and a 70 mm x 115 mm for an Italian threaded frame). Catalog research further indicates if a newer cartridge bottom bracket is matched with this crankset, then a 115 mm spindle length is recommended (regardless of the bottom bracket shell specs.).

This particular model also has the round SuperGlide (SG) chainrings with a 53T large (outer) ring and a 42T small (inner) ring. The crank arms are made from a forged aluminum alloy (so should be very strong) and measure 172.5 mm in length. We should also note the right crankarm has a bolt-circle diameter ("BCD") that is the relatively common size of 130 mm (so should be compatible with most Shimano chainrings designed for a double crankset...when it comes time to replace the rings at a later date). Please also note the crank bolts were not included with these cranksets, but the dust caps were...just as pictured (although, if a customer needs a set of crank bolts, then let me know following a purchase and I will try to locate a pair to include with the order).

The finish on this crankset is still factory-new, as the crank arms are painted in a gray enamel (with a little metal flake in was common on Shimano 105 cranksets of this era) and the aluminum alloy chainrings are a satin silver (so a slight color contrast, but still a nice cosmetic match to the painted crank arms). We also note very few, if any, shopwear-type blemishes (as you would expect from a component that has been stored in it's original retail box).

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at and less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we aplogize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' we have to strictly abide by them.
