IMPORTANT NOTE TO AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMERS - COMPARING USA bargain basement prices with ours. Please bear in mind that when you buy from the USA or elsewhere other than Australia, even though you may save the GST you will pay a lot more than advertised due to freight and the hidden card fees. Most people dont realise it but credit card company fees including lousy exchange rate - works out at about 7 - 10%! Coupled with freight from USA you should allow about 20 - 30% extra on advertised prices. We are at a disadvantage as an Australian business because by law we have to take into account GST (basically in the end we bite the bullet and pay it!). If you add these considerations into your dirt cheap price comparison you will see we are quite reasonable including most importantly a local warranty, personal service and if you visit us a great cup of tea or coffee. Also we service what we sell offering full in house workshop facilities for all Peterson products including the legendary Peterson tuners such as the 420 strobe tuner made in 70’s. Our other business is involved in vintage electronics - if you can read something into it all - good on ya. Please feel free to communicate with me via normal email if you want to chin wag.
SOME IMPORTANT STUFF YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF WHEN YOU BUY FROM ME !!! Please read.
1. COMBINED ITEMS and POSTAGE SAVINGS
If you are purchasing more than one item, please request an invoice at check out rather than paying straight away. This will enable us to send you a realistic invoice with appropriate reduced postage. This is also the best way for international customers where the Ebay calculator for postage may be inaccurate.
2. PLEASE NOTE - VERY IMPORTANT - POSTAGE COSTS, TIMES, TRACKABILITY, YOUR RISK and MORE……
I apologise for burdening you with this bonehead stuff. The Ebay / Australia Post charges shown on Ebay are not clear indeed possibly misleading. There is a collaboration and electronic link-up between Ebay and Australia Post which for the most part works well but there are some uh...oh's. We offer 5 levels of postage and these are the costs and terms and conditions you need to be aware of.
Local Australian Domestic is via Australia Post 500g or 3Kg satchel. They are trackable and take 3-5 days to most of Australia except the wop wops which is a bit longer.
Airmail International via Australia Post International Airmail Service. Usually most of our customers choose Australia Post International Airmail. This is a reliable (their record is pretty good and we have only had about 1% items go missing) and reasonably quick service (7 - 21 days - but your customs may hold it up a bit longer). THERE IS NO tracking on this service and NO insurance. It is the cheapest option BUT it is at YOUR RISK, your choice. PLEASE I need to make it very clear - this is at YOUR risk. This is not meant to scare you but I do need to be quite clear. Also don’t get me wrong, the standard Australia Post service is very good and reliable but you need to understand that we post this out in good faith at your risk not ours. We can only provide a stamped proof of posting record from Australia Post – no tracking and in the event of a claim (which is theoretically possible) it takes about 6 months. Some stats for you. In over 500 postings around the world 3 have had problems.
The cost is typically approximately ~$10 to New Zealand and parts of Asia, ~$14 to N America and other parts of Asia and ~$20 to Europe and most other parts of the world. The Ebay calculator will work this out more precisely. Time to destination. 1.5 - 4 weeks to N America and Asia and 2 - 5 weeks to Europe. Sometimes the speed is outstanding most times it’s a bit slow for an airmail service but I think things get held up in your customs and local post office who take their time.
Airmail International with Tracking / Registration. Same basic service as above BUT it is trackable and offers a greater degree of protection for you in the event of something getting lost. This is the RECOMMENDED POSTAGE SERVICE you use as then not only can you see what’s happened but we and Ebay have a come back on Australia Post for a claim in the event of loss. Approximately $6 more expensive. Time to destination. Quoted same as above but I have found it is sometimes quicker because of the paperwork involved. Please note Ebay protection for you works on the basis that you choose postage that has tracking. No tracking no protection. We therefore recommend this service highly and the extra $6. PLEASE NOTE - if you ask us for an invoice, we will automatically choose this service.
Airmail International with insurance and registration (trackable internally by Aus Post). Insurance costs $9 - $12 for up to $150 coverage and $12 - $14 for up to $300 coverage. Please Note: Ebay does not have a category for this. You need to ask me to insure it and therefore request an invoice. If you live in a country with a bit of a unreliable or questionable postal delivery system, then this is the option you should take. I am not implying anything here but I suggest this option for Russian Federation, former USSR countries / affiliates, Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, etc. If in doubt insure. Australia Post then covers the risk.
Courier / Express International. This is a fast, trackable, insured service and heaps expensive. (approx $50 - $75). We use either Australia Post EMS or DHL. Is it worth it.? If you are in a hurry or are really dubious of your post system then this is your option.
If Sea Mail shows up as an option - its wrong. There are not many countries that still do sea mail for small parcels. So if it comes up on Ebay in my store - ignore it. I DONT DO SEA MAIL and Ebay should not offer it.
POSTAGE WEIGHT CATEGORIES
The first tier of weight category is at 500g and then 1Kg, 1.5Kg etc. (Domestic next category is 3Kg). If it goes over 500g for international its roughly double the cost. Most cap pot kits weigh between 245 and 320g. (one or two are close to 480g !!) Motor kits are about 150g. Do ask for postage consolidation / invoice otherwise Ebay calculates separate postage charges on multiple items. If you are going to purchase only low cost light weight items such as belts, globes, circlips, washers, felts etc, if you request an invoice, we usually can send these via a standard international airmail letter post in a simple envelope for about $5.
YOUR COUNTRY LOCAL TAXES AND CHARGES
Many countries these days have VAT or GST with a low threshold. This means that you will be charged these taxes by your local post office or customs department plus probably a processing fee. It sucks but sadly such is life. Most EEC countries VAT / GST thresholds are approximately AUS$25.
CUSTOMS DECLARATION OF VALUE
We will declare the full value of the kit (excluding postage) unless you ask us specifically to declare a lower value to minimise local taxes, charges etc. Most EEC countries VAT / GST thresholds are approximately AUS$25. If you request a lower value then this is is entirely AT YOUR RISK. Please bear in mind that once you declare a lower value, then in the unlikely event of a claim (trackable, registered or insured parcels ONLY), the declared value is the deemed value and thats what you will be refunded or be your claim. It also sucks - they get you one way or another.
3. YOUR ADDRESS
It may be obvious but PLEASE make sure your address is 100% correct and add more information if there could be any possibility of ambiguity. Do not any use foreign language symbols like o ß ˘ ˆ - ~ ° Ç . The automatic link between Ebay / Paypal and Australia Post will not translate these correctly and your parcel may be incorrectly addressed. We rely on this auto link up which is very good but wont translate symbols properly. You be surprised how may addresses we get from Ebay without capitalisation, vague inferences to house or flat nos and incomplete names. The information you provide to Paypal is automatically transferred into Australia Post and onto a label. IT MUST BE PERFECTLY CLEAR.
Please make sure:
- Your full name is clear and capitalised appropriately eg Mr Firstname Surname
- House / flat / section number and street number are clearly demarcated with a comma between them. Don’t use foreign language symbols like o ß ˘ ˆ - ~ ° these wont be directly translatable by Aus Post / Ebay / Paypal. Spell it out if it is a flat in a block in a street – no shorthand.
- Suburb, Town is clearly shown
- City is shown on a separate line
- Postal or Zip code is shown exactly as it should be. Don’t add spaces, embellishments or abbreviations. Australia Post system checks to see it is a valid international post code and spits the dummy if it isn’t.
- Put your phone number in
- Put your direct email address in
4. WAITING FOR YOUR PARCEL
We only post out once a week usually on a Friday or Monday. We have given approx transit times above and these are on the pessimistic side of what Australia Post indicates. Usually things are sent within a day or two airmail out of Australia once lodged. However parcels are often held up with your local post and customs for days and even weeks.
4. OWNERS MANUALS
We make up an owners manual for all our guitars that details a lot of useful information. This emailed to you a few days after you purchase. Peterson tuners have their own owners manual in the packing. If any files we emaiol toi you are big we will authorise MyBigFile to send you a once only link to download the information. Some email providers have a limit of 10 – 20 Mb. So MyBigFile works well. Please just be patient during the down load – it does take time and the strange interface makes it seem like nothing is happening. It is … go make a cup of tea! Please note ALL our literature is copyright and by receiving these you implicitly agree to comply with our copyright policy.
5. IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE
Please guys and girls contact me 1st on normal direct email before contacting Ebay police! We have very few issues and pride ourselves that nearly all are resolved easily. Very very seldom do we have an unreasonable customer and most of you are into the spirit and credo in which I make our offerings available – indeed my raison d’etre. I am here not because I definately DONT need to make a living from Ebay or want to gouge as much as I can out of you but because I want to see and hear more classical guitar and in particular multi string guitar players out there. If you are grumpy and a pain in the …. please rather don’t buy anything from me. If you are a happy sort and have a positive outlook seeing the good in people rather than the negative, you will get a lot out of me and our relationship. We should always be able to sit down and have a cup of tea, glass of wine and a chat. No boneheads please! Thanks. Please feel free to contact me direct which is easier for me to give in depth answers - you can contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org I prefer this direct communication as the EB email is very cumbersome and restrictive.
Web Site: If you are interested in our other endeavours please have a look at www.laudarra.com.au Our Nagravox web site will be www.nagravox.com.au for vintage electronics.
The rest of this blurb is about me and why I do this. Some people think I am a nutter! Sometimes I might just agree! Certainly selling musical instruments and accessories is a labour of love and not really a serious money spinner. That aside, I love it.
ABOUT ME and LAUDARRA
10-string guitars I Alto 11 string guitars I 7-string guitars I 8-string guitars I Narciso Yepes guitars I Other Multi string guitars
Information, history, sales and tuning of multi-string & 10-string guitars, Alto 11 string guitars, 7-string guitars and 8-string guitars
Laudarra is derived from the Spanish words laud - lute and guitarra - guitar.
Laudarra Guitars was started in August 2011 by Peter Mony a classical guitar enthusiast in Sydney, Australia.
After selling my specialist electronic manufacturing business I decided to indulge my hobby and passion for the guitar. 10 string guitar struck the right note.
Although relegated in the past to somewhat of a fringe, the multi-string guitar in the last 5 years has seen a surge of interest across genres with some talented players and innovative instruments appearing on the scene. With the advent of luthier Neris Gonzalez’s philosophy to make good value instruments more easily available, owning and playing a multi string guitar is now easy, immensely satisfying and really affordable. From where I sit its sounds just great.
What will we do?

The Luthiers we represent and work with
We are the distributors for Milagro, Bartolex, Cathedral Guitars and Lorenzo Frignani in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. We also will be marketing these in the UK and Africa. We consider their guitars good value with a high standard of workmanship. We also have commissioned the Australian luthier Lance Litchfield to make a Laudarra concert level 10 string guitar and will hopefully continue to commission guitars from him and other fine Australian luthiers in the future to be marketed worldwide.
Neris Gonzalez is an Argentinean luthier living in Spain with a luthiery and workshop in China using traditional instrument makers. They produce about 250 hand made multi-string, 6 string and flamenco guitars a year in 3 – 4 batches. The Cathedral and Bartolex range has fixed standard features and are ideal as entry level and student or studio guitars respectively. They offer excellent value at a good entry level price. Neris Gonazalez is an innovator and has become a bit of a legend for making a large range of 7 – 11 string guitars with top quality finishes, excellent sound and at an affordable price. Bartolex guitars have a Rosewood or Mahogany laminated body and are made in standard versions with limited customisability and standard rosettes. The tops are solid cedar or solid spruce using traditional fan bracing. The workmanship is excellent and the finish is nitro cellulose lacquer. There are options for cut- away’s, sound port and internal Fischman pickup’s for Latin American and jazz players.
Milagro guitars are the “Premium and Special customised” series of guitars made by luthier Neris Gonzalez. In his custom workshop he has 2 Master luthiers making Milagro guitars by hand in limited quantities under his supervision from Jacaranda do Bahia, Cocobolo, Madagascar Rosewood, African Blackwood and other exotic woods. Some of the more exotic details are finished in Spain by Neris personally. Milagro guitars have a solid body usually of Rosewood with an enhanced attention to detail in their construction, finishing and detailing. The tops are either cedar or spruce and the bracing can be traditional fan or on some models lattice. Customers can order customised instruments with a range of wood types, tops, bracing, features such as cut- away’s, 12th fret, sound port, pickup’s, tuners, finishes. Standard models are produced in small batches with customised commissions usually taking 6 – 8 months.
Laudarra Guitars is proud to be the Lorenzo Frignani representative in Oceania. Lorenzo is an acknowledged master luthier based in Modena Italy who specialises in restoring old bowed and plucked instruments. He has a priceless collection of bowed and plucked instruments that is truly awesome. He also is a renowned maker of 6, 8, 10 and 11 string guitars hand made in his luthiery using traditional techniques.
He has received numerous national and international prizes and awards and he regularly works together with various museums and musical institutions both locally and worldwide. Frignani is the curator and assessor for the Toscanini Foundation of Parma and was Vice President of the ALI (the Italian Association of Luthiery for professional luthiers) and has been artistic consultant to and lecturer in the art of lute-making at the Pieve di Cento School of Luthiery, Bologna. He often hosts musical exhibitions and conferences and is frequently invited to participate in events of a similar nature. He has also, on several occasions, been a member of national and international juries. Frignani guitars are requested by commission only.

I AM COMPILING A MULTI STRING STUDY GUIDE
I want to encourage the development of study methods and a student repertoire by encouraging teachers, composers and educators to produce these materials and resources. Peter Mony (Australia) with a lot of support and encouragemnet by other multi string leaders Neris Gonzalez (Spain) and Stephen Bright (USA) am actively engaged in researching, badgering and encouraging experienced players and teachers around the world to produce such study methods. I am also liaising with these experts to provide excerpts from these pedagogues in progress so that we can put together and publish a simple shorter broad based "Study Guide" for the budding multi string player encompassing 7 - 11 string instruments and a range of styles from eg Renaissance to Samba to contemporary. The objective is a primer for the transitioning guitarist leading to recommending and referencing the more in depth methods from the experts. I am putting this together based on customers asking us for such a resource and hope to include one with each multi string guitar sold. We will also make it available on our web sites and other outlets. Things are starting to happen – watch this space! I am in Europe (living in Normandy France) for 2013 attending Guitar Summer Schools, liasing with multi string maestros and generally getting down to some serious progress. WATCH THIS SPACE!
