This BDP-80FD is the best (that I have found) low-cost, two-channel stereo, blu-ray all disk player, with RCA analog audio out which is good for 2-channel stereo folks like me. It plays all formats including SACD. It has a ton of features (e.g., Wi-Fi, direct cast, etc.) that I don't even use. It has good quality DAC outputs, and sounds better than most CD players. It is kind of light and cheaply constructed for pioneer Elite, but works very well. I have two of them for various stereos, and move them around all the time. I upgraded the main really good stereo to the Oppo UDP-203, which sound even better than the BDP-80FD (but at 3X the price).

As a long time user of Elite products. This disappoints. First, the unit is unusable without a remote. (?!?!) So you will have to order one that will control ALL the necessary functions. Forget a universal, only a pioneer remote(secondary market will work) Also, the web/internet/WiFi is slow any finicky. The unit is also much to light in weight. Will need to use silicon damning feat or put another component on top of it or will push back when using front buttons. The menu and adjustments are fine, as is the picture/sound quality however. In conclusion, yes, great price for an Elite model, but MUST have remote and lacks heft and don’t expect much from its web capabilities.

This is one of many disc players out there, but it has all the expected features and is not too expensive. The Pioneer Elite line of products seems to have a better than average build quality and feature set, and there should be no complaints on that score with the BDP80. What may be of interest to a minority that values the SACD functionality of this model, is that the BDP80 is one of the few currently available players that can rip an SACD via the LAN connection and generate an .iso image to a PC. Not something most will care about, but other units that can do this are all hard to find [first gen PS3] or more expensive [Oppo and Cambridge, for instance]

I have done quite a bit of research on Blu-ray Disc Players. And I have determined for the money the Pioneer Elite BDP-80FD has the best quality available for what you get as compared to the other leading brands. You can always spend more money but not always get better quality. I purchased two units one for my den and one for my front living room. They work great. And the remotes are easy to use. But best of all is the High Definition pictures. I really noticed a difference. I like these units so much I'm think about buying them as Christmas presents for members of my family.

Other reviews praise this player and i agree with them. The Core of my equipment is Pioneer and Pioneer Elite but, I am disappointed with the BDP-80FD in one area....it can freeze up on you. I was getting tired of unplugging it when this happened. One day I realized that this blu ray player had a reset button on the lower righthand side of the display. If you are impatient, push buttons and expect a quick response...the player will freeze up. You have to press the reset button or unplug it. You need to be patient and allow the player to finish the command you've given it. This has worked for me and I don't use the reset button much anymore. Remember....Be Patient. You have a reset button if you need it. Pioneer wouldn't have put a reset button on the front panel if this wasn't a problem....Just Saying.Read full review
