I am not new to tarot, I am also not beyond the beginner phase. I’m early stages of learning but have learnt quite a bit. I thought this book would be a great ‘next step’ but sadly it was a fair few steps too far. It describes each of the 78 cards from the perspective of 4-5 different decks. The Raider is always there, plus some other tarot staples. Each gets a small blurb per deck about the card regarding symbolism, history, religion, spirituality, etc. It’s not like going to the page designated, for example, the Three of Pentacles, and then gives an overview of the card and it’s generalised meaning. Instead it’s 4 or so seperate meanings and interpretations depending on the card displayed and meaning are often varied and within conflict of one another. A very confusing thing for someone just getting a grasp on the deck. This is a reference book more suited for the experienced reader of the cards who wants to learn of different deck meanings. It is a good, decent sized book and rather pretty - could easily make a coffee table book (unlike many of the other tarot books that look quite out of date and fashion). I hope this review has helped. I wish I’d been smart enough to read one before I purchased it.Read full review
