The testimony was con icting as to whether there was a bell cord attached to the engine and extending through the train to the cab-car, some of the witnesses testifying that there was ne, and the conductor testifying that it reached half way into the cab-car, but had been caught in some way so that he could t signal the engineer to stop, when he tried to pull it just before jumping off.
