This is a strong, slightly flexible plastic product. The holders for the hinges are very sturdy. The lift and lock mechanism is exactly that -- you can't lift and unlock at the same time. Unlock (slide the button with your thumb), then lift. It works perfectly and easily, and my little dog who can get through almost anything is defeated by this gate. I got this so long ago that I can't remember if this gate came with mounting cups for the wall or whether I got them from another Safety lst gate, but they are necessary one way or another if you really want to keep a determined dog from opening the gate. The quality is excellent. My dog has not been able to damage it at all, and he's one very stubborn terrier.

This is a great gate that is pretty much ready out of the box. It is versatile with two different ways of releasing it and quite immovable when in place. I only wish it were easier to find extension pieces to use for a portion of a room instead of a doorway.

It's a quick easy installation. If you want to move it to another room just lift off the hinges and put it on any door way in seconds

I’ve had a total of four different dog doors including this one and I’m amazed it blows the other ones out the water, the biggest factor for me was the design. Everything works as it should not like the other imitators where the parts don’t move or get stuck frequently and make it hard to put the gate up/down. Once you size the middle of the gate to the width of your door, it will come in and out very snug with a push of a button. No other door offers that, what’s crazy is the price I usually pay $50-$70 for a door at Petsmart/Petco I can’t believe I got this one for 30 and it feels like an Apple product. Designed perfectly in every way, and I think you can mount it to the wall so it can swing open too.

Very hard to lock into place. I had an old fisher price gate with a lock that worked well until it broke after 25 years. Hoping that this would work the same by squeezing the handle to remove. When putting in place only 3 of the 4 contact points make contact.
