Scarlet Runner Bean
The scarlet runner is also known as Seven Year Bean as it re-sprouts from its roots if they are left undisturbed. The bean is an old standard variety, a vigorous climber, with attractive scarlet flowers. The black and purple seeds are used to make bean jewellery. This bean originated in the South American highlands and is suited to cooler climates. The large quality pods can be eaten whole or just the beans. The beans can be used fresh or as dried beans. The scarlet runner is widely grown for its attractive flowers by people who would never think of eating it. 65 days.
I cannot send these seeds to Tasmania due to quarantine restrictions.
Western Australia customers, please see shipping details below.
Sow 5cm deep, spacing seeds 15cm apart. Grow in double rows 30cm apart. Keep the roots cool and weed free; a mulch of garden compost, peat or straw will help considerably. Water freely, particularly in dry weather. You may find that if night temperatures are very warm, the plants have difficulty setting beans - in this case, we advise you lightly spray the flowers and plants with water once the sun goes off the plants.
