Scratch Golf 8620 Milled Wedges ... Scratch Golf is known <to those in the know> to produce the finest wedges in the business. With a master craftsman's care, these wedges are made with several core principles in mind: quality, beauty, precision, playability and versatility.

Scratch Golf Wedge Overview
First of all, as this is a very complex product line, I have attempted to impart the pertinent information as simply as possible and while upon first read, it may seem daunting, it is worth re-reading and dissecting to select the precise product for your swing type and playing conditions.  For those of you that need even more detail, I encourage you to visit the Scratch Golf Website. (Be sure to come back!)

Scratch primarily offers two wedge lines to the retail golfer; the 1018 Forged and the 8620 Milled (Cast).  The 1018 wedges feature Scratch’s unique Smoked Satin finish and the 8620 has a beautiful satin chrome finish.  The playability results will be similar however you may see slightly more spin from the 8620 as the face is milled.  The 1018 has a slightly straighter leading edge as when compared with the 8620 which is a bit more belly shaped, similar to the shape you'll see with other wedges on the market today.  The 1018, as a forged model will offer slightly softer feel.

The standard groove in all clubs is the proprietary "ABC-V” groove. This new groove is designed to meet the new USGA Condition of Competition for Professionals and is legal for play everywhere from the PGA Tour to your local Saturday Foursome. This groove is designed to maximize the overall groove area on the entire face of the golf club while still conforming to the new rules.

In each model, there are the same 3 primary "families" with unique sole configurations, bounce angles and grinds to fit your typical swing type and playing conditions.  These individual grinds are "loft specific" and when we offer these as sets, we will always choose the grinds in the same family to sell together.

Wedge Families... See above for description of the exact family for this listing.
Digger / Driver:    These wedges have high bounce and tend to have a wider sole and little trailing edge on the stronger lofts and an aggressive heel and moderate trailing edge and toe relief in the higher lofts.  Players in this swing profile tend to be very “steep and deep” with the club at impact. Their aggressive angle of attack causes the club head to dig into the ground requiring greater bounce angles to get the club head back out of the ground and maintain contact between the face and golf ball. Miss-hits for this profile are commonly fat.
• Driver / Slider:     These wedges have moderate bounce and tend to have a center trailing edge and medium sole in the stronger lofts and an aggressive trailing edge and thin sole in the higher lofts.  This swing type encompasses a vast majority of golfers. These players will try and trap the ball between the clubface and ground, taking a shallow, even divot. Driver/Slider’s moderate angle of attack requires a mid-bounce angle providing assistance in maintaining the club head’s path through the turf and ensuring crisp, clean contact. Driver/Sliders tend to miss both thin and fat.
• Sweeper/Slider:    These wedges have low bounce and tend to have a moderate trailing edge and medium sole in the stronger lofts and the same except with slightly more heel and trailing edge relief in the higher lofts. Often a favorite of course superintendents, Sweeper/Sliders have a very shallow angle of attack and take little to no divot at all. This swing profile requires a low bounce angle, which helps combat the thin miss-hit for Sweeper/Sliders.

Scratch 8620 Milled Model Detail
Each 8620 wedge is CNC milled to exact specs using one of six standard sole grinds. Each grind is specifically designed to fit one of the 3 swing types: Digger/Driver, Driver/Slider, and Slider/Sweeper. Playing the correct grind for your swing promotes more consistent contact as the club works with your swing instead of against it.
Scratch 8620 wedges are milled from the same 8620 mild carbon steel as the other leading wedges on the market. 8620’s are CNC milled to ensure a perfectly flat face. The milling creates additional spin due to the textured surface on the face.
8620 wedges feature Scratch’s proprietary ABC groove technology. ABC stands for “all bite no chew” and these grooves deliver just that. Our machined grooves are maximum width and depth for maximum spin but the edges are slightly rounded to reduce chewing your golf ball. The face is milled to assure a perfectly flat surface.
The headshape of the 8620 is a classic teardrop head, with a high toe and a slightly rounded leading edge. The headshape design was based on feedback from our JLM lide as well as Tour Pros around the globe.
The 8620 wedges feature Scratch’s Brushed Satin finish. This finish provides the durability of chrome with a duller surface to help eliminate glare. The minimal stampings of the 8620 wedges provide a very clean look unique to the Scratch Golf brand and allow for personal stampings to be added to the wedge.
Scratch 8620 wedges feature a True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 shaft. Made 100% in the USA, the True Temper Dynamic Gold has been the standard in golf shaft performance and feel since the original introduction of the Dynamic line in 1942.

PLEASE NOTE: While I always prefer to use only my own photos to reveal the actual essence of the product, in this case I simply could not portray the true shape of these beautiful wedges as well as the Scratch photographers and have thus included several stock images below.

Please review our pictures closely because while we are not professional photographers, we are players and we strive to capture the essence of each item, to fully describe the playability and the condition in hope that you can make an informed decision about the products we sell. We hope to portray the angles that golfers would like to see when deciding on golf equipment and to point out the key features and reveal flaws, if any. We try to minimize the effects of shrink wrap, however there are often lighting reflections where applicable. Thanks for looking and keep playing this great game!
