then get this, otherwise get the sony. I got it because I needed it for a DIY project, and it is perfect for that. The Sony is two part bonded polymers, and this is the same but cheaper materials plus the molding is not as clean. Fits the camera perfectly however. The flexible rubber on the sony is about 35% softer despite it actually being quite rigid itself, this cheapo version is a little harder, and for my DIY project it actually works out better. Would I buy another one if I kept losing the others? Yes. at less than $2 each I would buy two or three. Would I buy another one if I was not doing a DIY project? No, Id pay the $9.95 for the sony one; that slightly softer polymer is better on your eyebrow over the long run. 99% of eyebrows interviewed for this review agree.

I've taken great pictures with this mirror-less camera, which has a great image sensor and good lens at much less size and weight than a DSLR. As the camera lacked a viewfinder, the only way to see the image for composing a shot was to use the LED display on the camera back. It's a good display, but tough to use in bright sunlight. I became aware of this accessory well after my 2013 purchase of the camera. It screws into the accessory slot on top of the camera which is alternatively used for the flash. The electronic viewfinder is well designed, with a bright high res display, a diopter adjustment, and a sensor which switches from the external display to the viewfinder only when you bring your eye up to the eyecup. The design downside is the attachment to the camera, which does not feel particularly robust. Sony advises that you remove the viewfinder before putting the camera in the case to avoid damaging it. Neither the camera or this viewfinder are still in production, but it is still available used, sometimes at decent prices. I definitely solved my bright sunlight shooting problem.Read full review

This viewfinder is a great upgrade to my NEX 5T the touchless shutter app lets me shoot images from my tripod without touching the camera just by waving my hand over the viewfinder and it works very well. The viewfinder itself works very well, it is nice and bright, the diopter slider lets you adjust it to your eyesight effectively for most people, and having the information displayed and exposure changes reflected in the viewer all work perfectly. The only drawback for me is the high price. You might be better off buying a NEX 7 camera that has an electronic viewfinder as standard and selling the camera that needs one. If you do decide that it is something that you need you won't be disappointed, it is a very high quality product.

This viewfinder is wonderful. The resolution and color is very crisp and can be adjusted depending on how near or farsighted you are. It also has a sensor that senses when your face is near the viewfinder, so the image moves from the LCD screen on the back of the camera to the viewfinder and vice versa when you remove your eye from the viewfinder. Works exactly as described, and I am very happy with it so far. It is expensive, though, but there is no substitution for a viewfinder when taking photos outdoors in bright sunlight.

...the sony Nex 5 series camera is great but missing an electronic viewfinder...the FDA-EV1S fills that need perfectly, but they are pricey! ...so in today's pricing a Nex 6 can be purchased used for $250 and includes the built in EVF...the Nex 5t is priced about $200 and the FDA at about $250...that totals about $450 for the Nex 5t combo...you may want to think through those combinations ...
