Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 are Nintendo's successors to the 3D Super Mario Sunshine, and, prior to that, Mario 64. Both Galaxy and Galaxy 2 are beautiful to look at and - like all Nintendo games - flawless to play. However, both lack the wonderful immersive environment of Sunshine. They are too linear and, and some of the gameplay is extremely difficult for younger and less experienced players. I feel that Nintendo has catered too much to the cliched gamer - the 18-35 year old male who spends hours every day playing. There are other more appropriate hard-core games for them; Mario games should ultimately be family games, and should thus be accessible to families. Sunshine had difficult, linear segments in its Secrets, but these were leavened by a vast environment in which the player was free to wander at will. With beautiful graphics and music, players could indulge in a more relaxed game as their mood took them; free to make the choice as to whether to simply explore, to pursue side-quests, or to complete missions. In Galaxy 2, there's no longer even a decent hub-world to explore - not that the hub in Galaxy was much to write home about. I bought Galaxy 2 mostly because I wish to own Mario games, not because of the game itself. It's a beautiful game, but I find it a disjointed, segmented, and often frustrating, experience compared to Sunshine. I hang out for the day when Nintendo releases a proper 3D Mario game in the vein of Super Mario Sunshine and Mario 64, the one which started the whole Mario 3D genre. Nintendo needs to work out who exactly it's trying to please - hard-core gamers or families. I certainly would become increasingly disengaged if Mario games lose their family-friendly charm and playability. On a positive note, it's marvellous to see Yoshi included.Read full review
My son loves it and no matter how much he does play it one of those games that always comes out when he has his mates over. all in all you never can go wrong with mario!
Absolutely brilliant. Another Mario classic! Although bought for my son, both myself and my husband love playing it for hours. Addictive!
Bought it for my son, was looking for quite a while. Good value and I took his word for it, and yeah Munson loves it.
