This book is a good overview for men and women alike. I bought copies for my sister and my daughter, and my dad has also read. Some of the information is not applicable to me personally, but the bottom line is that this book presents uncomplicated, common sense information. A quick and easy read, Women and Money demonstrates that its never too early or late to save and even the smallest amounts will pay off in the long run. Regardless of your investment risk tolerance, it's a very good guide that deals with not only investments, but other products such as wills, trusts, estates, etc. I also recommend buying a used book (sorry Suze) to save money and recycle to help save our environment.
This book should be in every woman's personal library, and please pass this information on to your daughters. Suze has really got it together and is passing it along to the rest of us ladies.I recommend you read every word, although in places you are told "if you already know about this skip to ...." I'm glad i didn't skip what i thought i already knew. Ms. Ormand covers just about everything you need to know about protecting yourself financially, Balancing your check book, investing, ira's and retirement planning, wills, trusts, estate planning, insurance, credit cards, credit scores,in a manner that is simple and easy to understand. She takes you on a step by step plan with the hope that at the end of five months you will be able to chart your progress and feel the pride and relief that comes with being in control of a part of your life that until now has remained outside your grasp.Suze offers good advice aimed at helping us to be the best us we can be. I have been an advocate of Suze for years. Love her Saturday evening shows, too! This book has a wealth of information even for those who think they know exactly what they are doing with their money as well as protecting their assets. She writes both from the heart as well as the head moving you in directions you perhaps might have avoided in the past. Do read this book. Even if you only take half of her advice, I can assure you that your money will have been well spent! Thanks Suze for encouraging women to take control not only their money, but their lives and future as well!
I read this book cover to cover within a week after receiving it. It's worth the price just for the information about the money market account. Suze gives some really solid advice on setting your house in order and gives you the time frame in which to do it. She breaks it all down into steps so it is not too difficult or overwhelming. I believe this book can set your mind at ease, whether you are a woman or man, if you just follow her instructions. I highly recommend this book. It has my 18 year-old daughter already planning her financial future. Thanks to information like Suze's, my children can have a brighter future. Why didn't anyone teach us this stuff years ago? A must read!
It goes into the psychology of how women relate to money; I found myself laughing out loud at this section. Because it is ridiculous, and because it's true. I'm a working single parent; I was afraid this book would focus on the housewife crowd. But, the advice is universally sound for all women. It inspired me to ask for a promotion at work. (I got a raise - which more than paid for the book in the first week - and the promotion paperwork has been filed, which will result in a second raise. Yay!) I also moved my young daughters' savings into higher interest rate accounts and involved and explained to them every step and the reasoning behind it. They were facinated and I know it will make a lasting impression, I wouldn't have done any of that if it weren't for the book. It is very informative and defines and de-mystifies all that bank and broker jargon. She includes a month-by-month plan with a few steps each month, to help ease women into taking control of their money. I hope she comes out with a second edition because the economy has changed so much since this was written & I wonder if any of her advice / strategies have changed.Read full review
