Lichtenberge r verfasste Werk uber Wien bot das methodische Vor bild fur das vorliegende Buch von Martin Se g er uber Teheran. Dieses folgt damit der bewahrten Tradition der Wiener stadtgeographi schen Schule, die Hugo Hass in g er zu Beginn dieses Jahrhunderts be grundet hat. Gleichzeitig reiht es sich ein in die von Eugen W i r t h und seinen Mitarbeitern in Erlangen in Gang befindliche umfassende Erforschung der orientalischen Stadt. Obwohl als allseitige stadtmographische Darstellung angelegt, so be herrscht doch - entsprechend den eigenen Untersuchungen - der sozial okologische Forschungsansatz die Ausfuhrungen. Das Hauptthema zen triert um das Problem der V erwestlichung einer orientalischen Metropole, deren Elemente und Prozesse mittels einer phamelogisch-typologischen Analyse von Flachennutzung, historischen Wohnbautypen, Hohenwachs tum des Baukorpers, sowie der Verteilungsmuster ausgewahlter Betriebs statten und Sozialgruppen erfasst werden. Unter teilweiser Abstreifung idiographischer Merkmale gelingt der uberzeugende Nachweis der Bipola ritat der Stadt, welche zonal und sektoriell gegliedert, um Bazar und City zentriert ist. Einem allgemeinen Stadtentwicklungsprinzip folgend, dehnen sich Wachstumsfront und Leitstrahlen der City in Richtung auf die guten Wohnquartiere aus, wahrend Viertel der armen Bevolkerung die
