The Numeral Cancellations of New South Wales
By Hugh Freeman
Only 220 copies were produced, and all 220 were pre-ordered and paid for with no extras printed.
The definitive reference for the rarity and ratings of cancellations on New South Wales Stamps. It's a specialist publication that represents over 50 years of painstaking collecting and research by Hugh Freeman.
Status International Auctions sold a second hand one of these on November 1st 2012, Lot 90, for $430 including fees- much more than its $160 plus postage issue price earlier in the same year.
Containing over 2000 full color photos of cancellations on stamps and covers, along with their rarity ratings. One good find could pay for this book many times over. It also contains the original CD ROM in a plastic pocket inside the back cover with the catalogs entire contents on it, for those who prefer to work with a computer instead of a book.
I have scanned the above photos as best I can, as the scanner is just slightly smaller than the book itself. Also, the dark shadow that can be seen on some of the pages is because I couldn't get the scanner lid closed properly and I didn't want to force it down and possibly damage the book.
Photo 1 shows the front paper dust jacket of the book.
Photo 2 shows the slight discoloration on the edge of the dust jacket.
Photo 3 shows the book with the dust jacket removed (pristine).
Photo 4 shows one of the pages that discusses the different types of cancels that were used.
Photo 5 discusses the ratings and shows the rating scale.
Photo 6 is an example of one of the pages showing some cancellations and their ratings.
Photo 7 is of the CD ROM removed from its pocket.
Photo 8 shows one of the handy Numerical Cross-Reference index pages.
Photo 9 is the back of the dust jacket.
The book weighs over 1.5kg and will need to be well packaged and sent registered and insured. When I entered the dimensions, weight, registered service and insurance on Australia Posts website it comes pretty close to the above charges. Please- If you do not agree with the postal charges and options in this listing then please do not bid. I am not taking the risk on such a costly irreplaceable item.
P.S. I apologize, I have just noticed that I have scanned two of the pages upside down!
