The Tale of Pebbles is a contemporary romantic suspense vel set in Greece on the island of Santorini and in the Peloponnese. Agnes Ogleby, a rewned American archaeologist, has become a member of a semi-secret organization of sixteen women - The Heraea - which has supported female participation in the Olympic Games for the past century and traces its roots back three millennia. In 1940, a previous member of the organization, Janet Willmott, discovered and hid a priceless artifact. A psychopath has been murdering members of The Heraea trying to obtain it. Using clues from The Tale of Pebbles - an excerpt of an ode by Pindar with Janet's additional instructions - Agnes journeys to each of the four sites of the Panhellenic games to seek more information about the location of the artifact. Accompanying her on her quest is Nick McLean, a vacationing Grecophile who has recently lost his wife, and Alex Rigopoulos, a Greek-American university student. The killer is t far behind and has encounters with the trio and others during their trip. Excerpts from Janet's diary over a fifty-year span add a complementary storyline. The mystery ends when Agnes realizes what Janet knew all along - the heart offers solutions that reason alone may t.
