You are bidding on a vintage Minerva Tropic Master shortwave receiver in need of repair. My understanding is that these were produced for use in World War II and perhaps were AC/DC. The heaviness of the cabinet and the ability to completely enclose the receiver does suggest military use. On this unit I could find no name or rating plate or information so I can't tell you for sure. The radio seems to be basically intact but the case is lightly corroded here and there. As you can see the finish has darkened but remained somewhat intact. The front door drops down and has a document holder built in to the back of it. The plastic dial cover is yellowed but intact. All the knobs are intact. The tuning dial moves when you turn the knob. The back cover of the radio comes off by turning 4 knurled bolts. There is a sliding door on the back cover. The chassis slides out the rear of the case. It does not seem to be attached and I don't understand how it originally was. It is now just setting in the case. The electrical components physically appear to be ok except for one tube that looks a little white inside. There is some faint writing on the back of the chassis but I don't know what it means (see picture 8). There are also three screw/bolt holes on the back cover that are unused which may indicate it was mounted or perhaps how the chassis was held in? The line cord to this unit is unusable and will need to be replaced. Since I cannot test it the unit is sold entirely AS-IS, no returns, no refunds - for bidding purposes assume you will have to do at least some repairs. Thanks for looking and good luck if you bid! |
