This receiver sounds good for a 6.1, the only problem, I think, with this receiver is that it doesn't have HDMI or that it is not a THX receiver! I am using this receiver for my bedroom TV, and for movies; it works and sounds pretty good with plenty of bass going to my subwoofer! I like the size of this receiver, it is a little bit smaller depth wise, so it fits my cabinet nicely! For a simple 6.1, It does it job, but I am not a professional receiver expert - so I am sure that other people can critique it better!

I was able to pick this up refurbished at ECost for a total of $143 and have found nothing to regret about the purchase. I'm neither a techie nor a teenie so excuse any weakness in my vocabulary. I bought it to replace a Kenwood and it made all the difference. You have to read the manual carefully because, like most others, it's a bit hard to set up. But once it's up and running it does a splendid job. The receiver automatically picks up the incoming signal and adjusts itself. Runs a little hot but it's not a problem if it's properly ventilated. Lots of options, more than I need in fact. 75 Watts is enough power per channel for me, although if you want to make the walls swell like a balloon you may want something more powerful. I'm pleased with it. I've been using it for about 6 months.Read full review
I bought the receiver becasue my Kenwood finally gave up the ghost. This was used so I had my doubts about condition. Once I received it and istalled into my HT set up, I was shocked to hear the difference between this Onkyo and my Kenwood. The wattage was less per channel but the sound is much clearer and crisper. The features took a while to figure out but once completed, the receiver is great. Tons of inputs for any setup.
It heats a lot so better to use in 105-110 Volts and it is safe and can be used 4 Ohms speaker. 120 Volt is not safe as I believe. Power transformer is heating without any load..

I purchased this Onkyo receiver after my Pioneer gave up the ghost. Having formerly sold stereo equipment, I know Onkyo as a high-quality brand. The product was delivered as advertised, sounds great and was an excellent value. Very happy with my purchase.
