An Advanced Work - Articulate and Insightful
It is important to state at the outset that this is not a book for beginners or for those who might be seeking to find a detailed and broad overview of the metaphysical uses of minerals, there are other books by Melody for that. Indeed, I purchased and have continually used the now seminal work, "Love Is In The Earth - A Kaleidoscope Of Crystals" for over twenty years (eighth printing 1994) as the work is so comprehensive and so informative that I would not look anywhere else for reliable and self-verifiable metaphysical mineral information. There is an updated version of this original book ("Love Is In The Earth - A Kaleidoscope Of Crystals Updated") so that's the one to purchase if you're looking for an in-depth encyclopaedic volume suitable for beginners and experts alike. This book, the subject of the review, is appropriately subtitled, "Supplement Z: An Extension Of The Reference Books Describing The Metaphysical Properties Of The Mineral Kingdom," and it is now my third book by Melody (the second being "Love Is In The Earth - Laying On Of Stones" third printing 1994) and I mention this solely to indicate that this 'Supplement Z' is suitable for, and indeed, very well worth seeking out if you already have a detailed working knowledge of and experience with a large cross-section of the mineral kingdom and you are looking for more advanced, specific information about rarer or more recently discovered minerals. That the first two Melody books I purchased were extensive and informative enough to satiate my thirst for knowledge and applicable information for twenty years and that only now have I purchased the 'Supplement Z' should underscore that it is an advanced work and although the book can quite properly stand by itself, in my opinion, it is best utilised with the aforementioned other works by Melody. The book itself is incredible. It's printed on thicker gauge glossy paper, each mineral is described in detail with the metaphysical and physical uses of each stone and unlike some previous incarnations of the 'Love Is In The Earth' series, each mineral description is accompanied by a close-up photograph which is very helpful when seeking to purchase these lesser known and more difficult to acquire stones. This is especially important when buying crystals online as in many cases it is a leap of faith as to what a rarer mineral might look like and as so many of the stones detailed in the 'Supplement Z' are not very well-circulated and may not appear in retail stores, getting a visual image of these rarities is very helpful. In addition to rarer minerals like Vallerite, Moraesite, Tetrahedrite, Genevite and many more which I have never heard of let alone seen, the book also provides an exposé of more than ten additional types of quartz-included minerals as well as detailing some stones which may already be in your collection of which precise metaphysical information is hard to come by like Kyanite with Fushite, Green Sheen Obsidian, Red Phantom Quartz, Purple Topaz, Sand Calcite and Lavender Tourmaline. There's also a helpful introductory section containing information on elixirs, synthetic minerals and stones which never need cleansing, while at the back of the book comprehensive cross-reference information links zodiacal designations and numerical vibrations with mineralogical associations as well as providing a limited number of updates to previously published information on some stones. I am very happy with the purchase (second printing 2004) and would highly recommend "Love Is In The Earth Kaleidoscopic Pictorial - Supplement Z: An Extension Of The Reference Books Describing The Metaphysical Properties Of The Mineral Kingdom," by Melody to all those seeking to augment their existing metaphysical mineral knowledge, especially if they find themselves in the position of being drawn to stones that they know nothing about or may have never come across before. If you are the owner of any of the 'Love Is In The Earth' series and appreciate Melody's methodology and insights you will not be disappointed by this book. This is a high quality volume where pertinent information is written clearly and succinctly. It is a work for those who already have detailed knowledge in the field and are open-minded and expansive enough to appreciate it. I wish you the very best of luck in all your endeavours and would like to thank you for reading this short review. Read full review
