About this product
A work of fiction tha's adapted from the original Thuen-Jaey that was written by an unkwn author.
Thuen-Jaey is the author's first published vel. It is adapted from the original Thuen-Jaey that was written by an unkwn author. Perhaps, his hidden intention was to defy injustice and suppression. A Cambodian king of his time suppressed his submissive subjects who'd lived in abject apprehension. It was his refusal to kowtow to the king's absolute authority.
It is said that the written text was found underneath the dilapidated bamboo bed of his ramshackle thatched house. To these days, one kws the original author's real name. Thuen-Jaey is one of the Khmer's literary classics that has been taught in school and told through words of mouth in villages. The author treats it with great reverence.
Thuen-Jaey is a satirical genre. On a superficial level, it is simple to read and easy to understand. Yet, it is profound and complex to comprehend. On its surface, the story is more than a harmless comedy that's coupled with decadent and perverse concepts of inherited power and sad jokes. Burying beneath it, there are dark and sinister views and woes of life - je veux dire, la vie verite - in the medieval Cambodian society.
